Definite fan of the Acclaim.
I've said it before but the ultimate mod would be to somehow Acclaim-ise a Honda Prelude coupe for double-take-tastic car show fun.

There's a beige Acclaim near me. Crying out for some retro treatment but left with the "old fogey" paint!
I almost bought one this summer but ended up with a 1.3 Maestro instead. It was awful.

There's one round here, I've seen it a couple of times but haven't tracked it down or captured it with my camera yet. Pale metallic blue, bit crusty round the arches. Stock height, stock wheels. Anti-static strips hanging from the back, rather too many stick-on orange/red reflectors, those black reflector door protector things, and a dark blue oversized "Unipart" sticker on the front wing. Awesome ;D

Hmmm.
An Acclaim would fill my current 'daily driver for more than 20mpg' slot. Most interesting.

My mate's one could would do 40mpg even if you drove it like a total c0ck, which was often the case. It started first turn of the key and had a super-smooth idle straight from cold, almost as if it was injected. Marvellous.

There's a VGC one a few doors up from my Mum's house, but my Mum keeps ignoring my requests to befriend the owner whilst mentioning that her son would happily look after her car when she stops driving. I suppose I might have to do it myself.

Hehe, my mum had an acclaim when i was about 8 (it replaced her lovely brown mk1 fiesta!). It was the posh CD model, so it got electric windows all round (even though you had to push them up yourself for the last inch). She had it about 3 years. but it got written off when a woman in a shogun reversed into it, and managed to catch the front wing, grille, light, bumper, bonnet...
i've noticed that it tends to be the solid colours that last better - the metallic ones seem to rust (my mum's was metallic red, and both rear arches were well gone even then)

I sincerely think that a Triumph Acclain is EXACTLY the sort of car my mum would buy, if she actually knew how to drive (gets confused by what all the pedals do, no really, she does.), or even had the remotest concept about cars.
Therefore an ideal ride for 'ironic kool', with 'slaterisation' or similar.

There was one up the road from my old house. It was in excellent nick, you could see shiny paint in the wheel arches as you walked past. It was a gold colour. It was owned by a local "mad cat lady" who couldnt drive. It had been her fathers, had low miles and no rust. The local yobs soon twigged that it was an old car and that it seldom moved and this was their excuse for regularly vandalising it. She tried to sell me it but she wanted too much money for it or my mate Steve would have had it. No idea if its still there. I can take a look next time I'm over there.
