quote - My renault 5 gordini 1400cc pushrod turbo has 195 bhp and 182 ibls feet on 15 psi of boost . It has GT turbo pistons and liners , standard cam and head , crank , rods etc , hybrid T3 turbo , straight through 1 box exhaust , GT turbo group A carb , alloy M.G. montego intercooler , GT turbo ignition module and a few other bits and bobs but nothing too radical or expensive . the wheels are the standard turbo ones that come on the cars originally . The cool low ride height is achieved by twisting the front and rear torsion bars as the car has no springs super duper indeed, I think I'm going to try and get this chap to pay us a visit! J

Gorgeous. Way back when I was into Minis and had only been driving for a couple of years, I had the chance of a super SUPER clean metallic green original-shape 5. Wish I'd bought it!

yeah i almost bought a blue one that was part finished, just after i sold my GTti. It had crrrrrazy red seats and the engine was set to make about 220bhp! They really are fantasitc machines, especially as lowering is a case of moving some splines, renaults love the floor!

Hmm, had a couple of Renault Five turbos. Loved them to bits, just never felt that safe in them, was either waiting for detonation, or worried about structural strength at warp speed. They were Mk2s though, an early Gordini would light my fire now though...

They are fwd, renault forgot to turn the engine (see old passats they had the same kackhanded engine/transmission layout)
Anyway the car is fuggin cool love mk1 R5's, the gordini wheels just suit the car soooooo much it almost seems a crime to swap them for anything else.

Renault 8 gordini anyone ;D But He`s like a resident Troll on Turbosport Check out some of the Oldschool banter threads, or any mention of Zetec/Duratech/Pinto If its not a "Harris Pinto" its Sh!t in his opinion ;D

YEah I was thinking it must be like old VW's and Audis. Is a Lovely looking car but needs some black to break up the red IMHO. Maybe black bumpers.

It's actually closer to the Traction/DS Citroens as the gearbox is in front of the engine!
Means the weight of the engine sits further back of course, which is never a bad thing.

Saw this beauty at Donnington a few months back, managed to blag tickets to the Renault World Series and there was a little compound full of historic Renault race and road cars.... saw this guy leaving and couldn't believe how shiny and looked after it was for a car that doesn't get trailered everywhere....

oooooooh love these They pop up on ebay from time to time and I think 'should I?' ;D but am always put off by engine reliability issues The basic engine is very reliable. Bearing in mind that it's an early 60s engine (called the sierra engine!), it takes to turbocharging well BUT (it's an even bigger but than that) you must make sure the cooling system is equal to whatever your doing to the motor. Remember that although this engine was designed to run in the back of the Renault 8 (which means it would get very hot), it's wasn't even dreamed that a turbo would be attached to it. Most of the 5GTT blowups are cause by either mega boost and/or inadequate cooling. FYI a useless bit of info... The R8 Gordini (which is the same bottom end as a standard 8) is believed to be the only production car of the 60s (maybe more) that didn't have a red line on the rev counter and didn't have a 'max rpm' mentioned in the handbook.

Del from Renospeed had a fantastic black show-winning one sitting that low. It drove like curse word though with the torsion bars wound down like that. So we converted to coilovers all round - modifying wishbones, pick-up points, bracing the shell etc and fitting coilovers custom-made by Leda. Worked great, but loads of effort and money and wasn't really worth it in the end. Unbelievably Del decided to rob the bits out of it for one of his R4 projects and sold it as a bare shell Wish I'd had the dough to buy it now...
