jsut a thought... you know when you pull up to the lights in your sleeper, your omega v6 engine nova or whatever, and theres some other barry sitting there in his stock 1.1 fezza, and you go to pull one over, as does he, and find he has a cossie in there, so you are both sleepers and both caught out and both matched by each other has this EVER happened?

Back in the day when I had a Mk1 Escort estate with a breathed on 1650 x-flow I pulled up along side a Reliant Supervan. ;D........ .....it left me for dead. It was owned by a biker who had turboed the engine to very good effect.

I had a Nova with an SRI130 lump up front and cavalier commander steelies (looked like stock budget nova steels but had a bit of width
Pulled up alongside a Mini van at the lights
thought the driver sat a long way back but no matter he was gonna get slaughtered
Gassed it
Got wasted
Anyone ever seen a Lotus Elan with a mini van bodyshell held on to a Lotus elan with bonnet straps and rubbers!!!!
Well I have!!!
Spoke to the guy a few weeks later - he'd removed his Glassfibre body to get all the gelcoat cracks repaired and the whole thing painted and tht left him without a car so he cut the top of a Mini van ran some box steel round the bottom and bonnet clamped it to the chassis
It was awesome to look at clocks held in with cable ties etc etc etc

My wife's old '66 Beetle was breathed upon (twin webbers + other bits) and really went very well indeed... She pulled up alongside a white VW T25 panel van at the lights, gunned it off a bit, but the van left her far far behind. Apparently it was Audi quattro powered. There were also rumours that it had upgraded to Porsche power at some point but no one could confirm that.
Also a REALLLLLY nicely turned out Blue Mk2 Golf lived near us (so no exactly sleeper) and that thing went like billyo when the guy gave it some. Never saw it at any shows or in any magazines though and it was definatly worthy.

My brother has just sold his sleeper. He bought a very clean Polo G40, Then began to play with its power with a Eaton supercharger, induction kit ect. Then debaged it all with stock Polo grills and such, Even draping a tartan blanket over the rear seats for that added "Mums car" effect. I think he managed to get it up to around 180bhp and he could blitz a suprising amount of cars from the lights! He used to love that car

Don't remember it happening to me, but i don't try it on too much in road worthy fleet cars. In the Sapph an e30 Bimmer really got some distance on me on the snakey rishworth moors, fast and twistie master! And in the MR2 i am well aware of its opposite-to-sleeper effect it has so i rarely try it on, specially with a slightly slippy clutch!

surprisingskoda in da house: jsut a thought... you know when you pull up to the lights in your sleeper, your omega v6 engine nova or whateverWell for a while 2 summers ago I used to terrorize Golf GTI, Saxo, and other small hatches with the most unbelivable sleeper of the City, it was an Aprilia DiTech 50cc fuel injected 2 stroke scooter on NOS, at green I would give it the hammer and beeing light I get some 10meter on anything and by the time they are next to me I would hit the GO-BUTTON and it would just lift the front wheel some 10cm of the ground and fly to 110kph, that's when it topped out and the look on the faces of these "kids" in their super-cool-neon-flashing-cars was worth every dime I had to spend on NOS, they were blasted by a guy on a MOPED!!!! This is the scoot and today it's in the back of my shop waiting for a new piston but that's about it, it ran some 5000km on the piston with NOS most of the time and it's still in one piece..... DP says: You don't need a V6, V8 or turbo to humiliate GTI drivers......

I once pulled up at the lights in my debadged G40 Polo.... alongside me arrives a Rover 214, the original square ones. I thought 'He's brave', even though I'd got two passengers I knew i could have him. Unfortuantely I know it said '214' on the back as I spent the next mile with him slowly pulling away from me, i was pushing hard (on the local test track we have, obv.) up past 100 and he was just slowly and surely gaining! never did find out what was in it

Nice work dp, those aprilia mopeds are actually ok then? Spotted an old 1980 honda 70 at my dads the other day, pondering sorting that for the summer, maybe there is potential...

With the risk of getting OT I'll keep it short, if it's a Honda Dax 70 it's worth it: www.mini-cooper1.com some awesome Honda Monkey & Dax stuff there...... DP says: Back to topic........

I had recently finished helping my mate bolt a 2.3 V6 into a Robin Hood EXMO kit car and once we got yhe fuelling right, we went for a blast. The 2.3 was well suited to the car, plenty of grunt and went like stink, but not as well as the Mk3 Escort estate that wasted us totally on the run back from Norwich..........licence-losing rate of knots and still it pulled away..

I caught up to old Austin maxi or 1100 type thing on a local expressway coming up to an island. Went to pull over to pass it in an Golf GTI 8v I used to have and the thing cornered like it was on rails and shot off up this hill. I gave chase but full bore in the GTI still wouldn't catch it up to the national speed limit - it was a beast!
Recently not much 'sleeper matching' going on. I usually pull up in my standard looking Mk2 Golf with steel wheels next to some fat businessman type in a high powered rep-mobile... and then leave them behind ;D

Many years ago I built a stretched 6 wheel ,midmounted rover ,Toyota Hiace van . (see my website) I was on a..er.. test track (looked like a motorway tho!) went to pass a (new for the time )xr3i with woman driver ,She floored it ,and we ended up at well over 100 mph side by side ,I just couldnt get the edge on her . It was at this point that my missus reminded me we had a child in the van ,and I should ferkin well slow down . I had got so carried away in the heat of the red mist moment that I forgot all about everything surrounding me !To this day ,I shudder to think of the consequences.

Dunno about sleeper matched but i was driving my Mums old BX GTI 16v (now for the uninitiated these are light and have 170bhp at their disposal) when i came accross a mk3 XR3i (well it looked like one) and i knew damn well that this BX would best it, sitting on a long fast stretch of laocal dual carriageway when i spied this scort in my mirrors, I dropped to 4th and floored it, so did he obviously and what should have been a rapidly dissapearing ford was right with me, up to an indicated LOST LICENCE speed. I pulled over and he came past with no problems. swine.

I had a Diahatsu Sportrak EFi a few years back. Not a bad little thing (1600 16v) but when I cut off the exhaust and then lopped off the stupid complicated intake system and replaced it with a direct pipe and a free flowing filter hanging out of the grille it was an ANIMAL! Anyway, I was just waiting at the lights and this little Smart Car was sitting beside me. He gave all the 'I want to race you' secret sgnals (revving the engine, nodding at me with a stupid silly grin etc) and so I decided to play the game. We took off but he got a slight lead on me. Enough of a lead for me to read the BRABUS badge on the back! In fairness I did beat it, but it took everything my Sportrak had to get the edge on it and it wasn't much of a lead. The last thing the Brabus guy saw was me giving a friendly flash of the hazzard lights as I peeled off into the lane to go to the extreme right on the roundabout and promtly put it completely on two wheels like a seasoned stuntman and damn near rolling it! (unintentionaly be he didn't know that) Quick little blighters those Brabus Smart cars

not been done yet, but i did a renualt clio williams today much to his surprise. he was belting it up the motorway alongside me around 70-80mph then came off the same exit as me and down the dual carriage way, off a round about and he floored it, so did i and stayed on him. then dropped back abit and left a big enough gap - then floored it again right upto him, with a safe distance. then he turned off with a funny face on him not many sleepers round these parts. clio williams - pah! ;D

a few years back i pulled in for juice at a petrol station in my jetta gti, with 2 of my mates in with me........ i was filling up, and this scabby blue 'g' plate sierra hatch pulls in, just to the left of me, and at the pump further away..........how i laughed, or how 'we' laughed at the standard 'gls' badge, with a PINK 'turbo' sticker underneath it, straight off the market.......anyways, we made sure the guy got some stick on the way out ;D...... anyways........5 miles or so down the road, i reach the 2 mile stretch of dual carriageway, and take the jetta to 80 odd.......and notice a car approaching fairly quickly in my mirror........i'm overtaking, so he pulls up behind me and sits there.......yup, it's mr sierra man, foot down, i'm struggling to break 110.......and the dual carriageway ends, and at the chevrons i look in my mirrors, and he's gone, only to hear a funny wailing noise, see a big cloud of turbo smoke and get peppered by loose chippings........i kid you not, it was seriously quick, we all looked at each other stunned and then burst out laughing ;D.........i now LOVE cars like that.............serious respect to the guy and at the lights in my passat vr6, which had never been beaten, it's taken a mitsi 3000 gt and a civic type r....which was nice.......... nearly 200 brake and numerous scalps in the grandad wagon.......i pull up behind an 's' plate m3.......knowing he's quicker, but spot a bald head and decide to give him something to think about..........red....amber......jeeeeeezus........i've never been left for dead like that before, i thought i'd hit reverse.........but at the next roundabout, i come up behind and prepare for a slingshot exit......gets level with him, and the crafty sod, who is in his 50's, gives a cocky sideways smile, and leaves me in the middle of the road...........gutted?.......no......laugh all the way home?.......absolutely ;D

Not at the lights but I once attempted to chase a Skoda Estelle round the trough of Bowland in my MKII Escort. I came up behind him, he dropped a couple of gears, it made a noise like a dumptruck, and just vanished.
