I'm being no help what so ever here, but that painting has struck a chord with me. Back in the '80s I'm sure me and my friends used to collect small cards with very similar metalflake illustrations that possibly came free with packets of crisps or similar. Random, but true Lots of stuff used to be metalflake or look like it was - I had some wind-up toy robots, and remember how many bins/5p rides were finished like that? Bawtry market had these terrifying metalflake monster bins... This painting is on a metal section - I photographed it on a copy stand with a 36Mp Nikon D800E and 85mm lens (really need a good 50mm or a macro with better close focus).

Remember this car very well..... Ian Etheridge used to spend a lot of time in the village I lived in as a teenager. Got a lift in this car a few times, would have been around 1979/1980. He threw the original engine in the skip, and fitted a full race unit running on race fuel. 4mpg driving normally, 1/2mpg when doing 1/4mile runs. The rear lights were full width of the bootlid, and also went up that fin on the bootlid. They were crystal lights, and iirc Ian told me they were £3000 in 1979!!!! I remember somebody ran into the back of the car at one point, and all those lights had to be replaced!!!! Ouch......

That is epic - I could live without the sunroof and tube bumpers, but the glare from the paint means you would be blinded anyway. The advert claims 2500 hours for paint. Which if my maths is correct is 40hrs a week for 14.5 months - with no time off for good behaviour - wow - just wow.
