Hi All my first post on this great site i have been a lurker for a while now so thought i should sign up and post up my project over the last 2 years
I had a tvr Chimaera for nearly 4 years and fancied a change. I decided on a TVR again
Spec in factory form.
4.2L model
* Engine type: V8 OHV 16v
* Power: 360 hp
* Torque: 320 lb·ft ) at 4500 rpm
* Redline: 7000 rpm
* 0-60 mph: 4.2 seconds
* 1/4 mile time 12.4 seconds
* Top speed: 185 mph
4.2 ajp v8 (speed 8 ) flat plane crank ( same as f1 engine of the mid 90's)
www.projectm71.com/Cross_FlatPlane.htm
The Massive ICE system is out to and the helmet holder fitted between the back seat again.
The bonnet mesh looks likeit was from a farm so getting changed for some new audi RS4 mesh on its way from Germany.
New set of plates and i need a translucent one for the rear as the rear number plate lights sit behind the plate i think one of few cars that can legally have a translucent plate.
Find this funny B O Hare built my engine B-)
Ap racing brakes all round
First up a nice new set of rubber all round Goodyear Eagle f1 asymmetric I have always run GS-D3 but the asymmetric get a better write up so I will give them a shot.
All the air box’s and dash are out and off to get painted in pearl white
Also on order are my purple coolant silicon hose’s and as I am changing them out I removed the radiator and gave it a good clean up and a lick of paint on the fan cowlings looks in good order so no alloy one just yet.
Next up is my Stainless pedals to fit and it had to be the worst job I have ever done on the last TVR to date not looking forward to fitting the throttle arm!!!!
New stereo kind of in it has a USB slot on the front which ideal for me and I bought a 16gb micro SD card off e-bay and a USB adapter that is tiny so looks pretty discreet £15.50 for the card and £0.94 for the adapter cant moan.
Thats it for now aim to be back on the road in 6 weeks really not too much to do as i found out it had the big 12k service just over 1000 miles ago but i will still drop the oil and changed out the air filter too as it was getting on a bit.
Year 2
Well it has turned in to a project now as with 90% of TVR's at this age the chassis is the weak point due to a curse word Powerder coating process from the factory So as with my last TVR i am here again stripping and prepping it.
I have added some new equipment in the garage to help me work away at it.
First up is my ramp now working very well
So first up was to strip the shocks and rear wish bones
Then the diff came out as it had a little leak on the rear plate.
Calipers off for a clean up and new stainless braided hoses to go on. and i painted the alternator as well. Also have a heep off power Flex bush's to go on for diff and ARB Bush's and a full new wish bone bolt set
I started to prep the diff
Now finished just need to seal the back plate and i have a uprated bracket coming as well.
O well back to this prep work that is soul destroying
I have that pig of a diff bush still to get out.
And the ARB all cleaned and painted up now.
Wishbones in Primer
Now in nice white top coat
I am working away at the engine bay as well got a big service and valve clearances to carry out as well. so i made a cam retaining tool
Getting there slowly with the bay still loads of bits away at company's doing work for me
i have quite a bit of paint to touch up as you can see, the diff was a ***** to get back in.
Getting there now the whole back end was built back up over the weekend and new tyre's are on the spiders Now to pull that front end to bits.
It's moving along now starting to built the rear up now after i have done all the prep work and painted the chassis the diff is back in and the new Polly bush's too.
Picked up my new Stainless Sports Exhaust today. Still to be finished at this stage.
And my Steering wheel is also back from D&C trim very happy with it ,now has grip lol.
Been chipping away at the front end and all wish bones and hubs off again and shot blasted primed and painted.
Before nasty wax oil again
Stripped down and ready to clean.
shot blasted bits, i bought a new wish bone as one was badly welded up and could not be bothered digging the chewing gum welding out and doing it myself .
New wheel fitted
New ball joint and Track rod ends
Wish bones in white
Hubs getting there few more coats
Not long now till i can wheel you out and wash you.
I have covered over 1000 miles in first 3 weeks of being back on road after 8 months, running very well i am pleased to say
I picked up a set of these RL7's off the 4.5 cerb as my spare set and for the track.
The exhaust has now been finished thanks again to willie at Meerkat Exhaust, While i was there i decided it was time for the cats to go and i had a set of silenced de-cats made. He modified my Cats for MOT time
Next Job is to sort the heater out after i found a pool of pink coolant under the car, I traced it back to the heater matrix.
What has been done.
1.Chassis is painted and welded and plated in the rot spots.
2.Front end is built up.( Every nut and bolt to do with the suspension and brakes)
3.Starter motor back in and it cranks over again Bad wire on the solenoid.
4.Exhaust fitted ( still to be welded as one section after Chatsworth)
5.Alloy rad in.
6.HID's out and standard bulbs in.
7.And lot and lots more that are not coming to my mind right now. lol
And now all finished.
I changed the Brake master Cylinder And i added a new Alloy rad tech Rad.
I was not happy with the ride height so bite the built and i have ordered Nitrons on Eibach springs as i had no adjustment on the standard set up so i intend to rasie the front end a inch or so to make it more usable. All in all i am pretty happy with how it has turned out.
And that is it uptill today i still have a massive list of to-do jobs i doubt i will ever be quite finished with this car. lol
