I remember someone saying I can get the rx7 registered correctly as a 1.3 litre rather than the 2.4 its currently registered as (they just seem to pick a random cc!). iv looked on mazdaspeed.com which someone reccomended and cant seem to find anything. anyone know where to look?

they are classed (and taxed) as a 2600cc if i remember rightly

they are classed (and taxed) as a 2600cc if I remember rightly DVLA has mine as 2354cc and I'm pretty sure its insured as a 2.4. but 2 rotors at roughly 650cc each is 1.3. god knows where the extra 1.1 litre comes from. out of someones greedy backside i imagine... |

why is it x1.8? i remember reading about motorsport classifications somewhere but the road isnt a racetrack. I'm pretty sure the police will back me up on this!

cheers. now this may sound REALLY dumb but what exacly is the logbook? iv got the v5 and mot certificates and whatnot. is the logbook just the deely everything is stored in or is a certain sheet of paper? |

V5 is the logbook, dunno why they call it a "book"! ;D yeah thats always threw me off! so iv got the loogbook/v5. where do I get mazdas specifications from to prove its actually a 1.3? iv got the original owners manual in the car, would it be in there? cheers for all the help guys! figured id better get it registered as a 1.3 sharpish with all this higher tax/congestion charge lark! |

Not sure about the 1.8 as a number but in a four stroke conventional engine you get 1 power stroke for 2 full revolutions of the crank With a rotary you get 3 power pulses for every single revolution of the crank So there is a factor involved somewhere You have sweet fanny adams chance of registering it as a 1.3 and claiming chap road tax IMHO ;D |

The 1.8-2 multiplier is used to get some sort of equivalence with 4-stroke piston engines. My understanding it that the number arrived at is an attempt to be able to equate air consumed. In Australia it is a simple x2 for road use and x1.8 for track use. Basically it is a magic number plucked out of the air. bstardchild is correct with the 3 power pulses for every turn of the crank. By this measure a 13b rotary is actually a 3.9L.  |

When it was buff coloured and contained all the previous owner's details it was a "log book" and the name stuck |

You can get this re-registered as a 1.3. When I had one I had to send the logbook and a letter from a Mazda specialist off to the DVLA to get it reregistered. I think the Mazda specialist charged me about £20 for the letter. I can't remember offhand who the specialist was.

out of all the people who work at the dvla, how many really know about cars tho?
if you show them something saying your car is a 1.3, i doubt they are going to know enough about rotarys to question you
