Oh dear me, is it wrong to get really rather excited seeing the wheels on? I didn't think so. That looks sublime with the wiremags fitted! Not sure how it'll affect the handling, but the rears would look so good with another 1/2" of spacing to bring them out as much as the front. Using proper spacers of course I can't begin to tell you how excited I am about this car and with that in mind I can only begin to imagine how excited you are? Now I can see the better shots it really does look like the baby brother of the Elite. Especially with the patchy black paint and gold stripe. Good work Dude and I can't wait to see more progress...fingers crossed for some space here very soon. No, it's not wrong at all. I did. And the fit is sheer fluke - after all I bought the wheels before the car. I love the way that the gently curved surfaces and sharply angled corners match. ;D I tend to agree re: rear wheel spacing. However, there's no way to induce camber at the rear without major fabrication - like new trailing arms - so in order to keep the tyres under the arches I think it'll have to stay roughly as-is. You know how some racing cars have the rear wheels ~vertical and ~flush, with the fronts cambered and poking out a little at the bottom? Yeah, that. For the wheels I'm thinking silver paint on the lips and spoke faces, with black between the spokes. I'd like to polish them up properly, but I fear it'll be too much maintenance. I'm very, very excited. Although I'm not sure that really covers it. I'm not sure the Lotus resemblance is entiely coinicidental - the people that set up Clan were ex-Lotus. Fingers crossed indeed ( ). Those wheels are sooooooo right, so much more than fit for purpose, dare I say the perfect rim for it! Gunna look sweet Hehe - I do think it would be difficult to improve. EDIT to add that I keep going back to look at the photos. I never do that with my stuff. ;D

Those wheels are the dogs danglies dude. They look even better on than they did in the photo. Are you gonna polish them or keep them used looking? Just out of interest, the Clan is 10 inches longer overall, 2 inches shorter in wheelbase and 100kg heavier than a Davrian. I was bored - can you tell? Cool photo of the 'tailgater'. It always make jump when I'm towing and I catch sight of the car behind!

Cheers Mark - thought you'd like 'em. They're going to be refurbed, yes, but I think polished will be too much upkeep - I'm lazy, so silver paint on the silvery bits is more like it. I think the spokes were originally a bronzy colour, but I think black is the way forward there - more versatile should I choose to paint the car in future. Yes, I can tell. Interesting to know though - I hadn't realised that the Davrian was that much lighter, but it is a fair bit smaller overall so it makes sense. Yours should be great with a bike engine in it. ;D Kept making my Dad jump - although once he found that he was able to look through it to see behind us he stopped jumping.

If you do decide you want shiny wheels, drop in and use my Ratta discs. Shiny rims and black spokes would go well with the black body. There might be a few other jobs that need attending to first though, like sills and stuff I think Davrian weights are dependent on model and spec and what the factory guys were schhmoking that day! My mates Mk7 is so thin that you can see the road through the floor!

The Clan that was sprinting at Crystal Palace a couple of weeks ago was awesome and really got me looking at them in a new light. I was amazed at a) how much room there is in such a small car and b) how quickly they can be made to go! Anyway, shall be watching progress with interest.

No updates, I'm afraid - there's been no progress, because I lack workshop space :where it is I can't get properly started as a) I need to keep it rolling in order to transport it and b) I have no power/storage/etc. Tinkering is ok, but I've done about as much as I can with it in the caravan storage.
This week I shall mostly be acquiring things for it - I've just been making a list - plywood, epoxy, glass, suspension bits, etc. I might go up at some point to take some measurements for the shocks and headlights, and maybe have a go a loosening up the kingpins so it's easier to steer, but I'm going to be very busy in Uni this week.

I know that feel mate!
All my lockups are tiny, 200 miles away, powerless, waterless and sometimes more importantly toilet-less. don't ask.
Are the shocks not std Imp?

Not ideal, is it. Being outside is a real pain - can't even take the glass out until it's under cover.
Shocks: In terms of size, I think so, but much softer. I do want to double-check the open and closed lengths though, and maybe see if they need a change of length for an appropriate ride height - after all, it looks like I'll be buying Protech shocks for it, they offer two lengths for Imps, and at that price I want to get it right first time.

Nope it isn't. Is there no chance of a garage near the uni? Local council perhaps?
I guess with those spring rates, you'll need some soft shocks. Thse springs still seem odd!

Probelm with a lockup is lack of light - combined with residential locations limiting noise and smells, especially at night. I do have a plan for some work space, but at the moment it's dependant on factors out of my hands. I am keeping my eyes open though.
Yes the springs are very soft. Quite strangely so. I'll see what my resonant frequency calculations throw out, but from my gut feeling the original rates will be fairly close: it was designed by (ex-)Lotus people after all.
As for shocks, the Protechs can be adjusted beyond their normal 13-click range: you can alter the position of the knob (pfft) on the shaft (pfft) to extend the range. Should allow them to go soft enough.

I had a light problem, so I converted my halogen 500w spotlights into 3w 12v LED spots. Now they'll run all day and longer on a car battery.
As you say residents can be a problem. Ive been lucky so far, but then i try not to take the wee in the first place.
Have you read Staniforths book on suspension design? If not I highly reccomend it!

You see, if Mark bought one of my cars then the plan to get the Clan down to Area 52 could happen because I'd then have the space. As a result of this, he wouldn't have to keep annoying you demanding updates because you'd have plenty to satisfy his short attention span and high demands to be fed with constant progress reports.
It's a foolproof plan. ;D

I know what you mean. I've been doing a little measuring etc. and researching plyoowd, epoxy and so on. I have a plan of attack now. Have you bought any of Bruce's cars yet? EDIT: the MOT on the Imp expires on 21st September, so that gives me a nice set-in-stone deadline to get this on the road. ;D I've started collecting parts too - I picked up the intended seats from my parents' shed yesterday, and will be putting in spares orders next week. EDIT2: I've decided on the eventual paint colour too. But you'll have to wait to find that one out.
