Not having the right size of drill bits didn't help and I needed to make a extra small boring tool to do one of the bits. Not sure what the next morris job is. Maybe a first attempt at making a seat or inner wings. Cant progress the exhaust until i buy tubes. |

That will be a very special and nice car when finished! On you tube there is the Skid Factory which is pleasant to follow and gives a lot of information about fitting turbos and intercooler and is fun to watch. But no swag holes...

You could do that as your build is interesting enough but you have to be the right person for it and the biggest issue is the time involved in filming-editing and on the succesfull You tube series like Binkey and the Skid Factory, there are people who do the filmimg and the editing. I quess it only works if it is your day job.

Thats the main reason I haven't started doing one. Time to create / produce.
There's a whole spectrum of video streams out there with varying quality.
I'd like to do the more professional end but with equipment i have and as a solo act I don't think I'd get there.
I may do a test reel and see how it goes.

So I was going to start on the mount for the handbrake, but as I want a vertical hydraulic one, i thought i'd better check the available space. to do this i need my seat mock up in position, but to do that I need to mod it as it sits a lot lower than the drivers one. I suspect the roll cage tube holding the passengers shoulder at an odd angle will also help distract them from the cramped foot positioning, but I may well paint the foot rest blue for the lolz. Speaking of which, I added in some additional tabs to hold it in position.  P1020043 by jono_misfit, on Flickr then contemplated muchly about what to do next. I know I said i was going to sort things then do the handbrake, but the more I thought about it the more I think i need to make the seats first. And I'm trying to put that off for a while. Plus was very full of cold and low on motivation. So decided side steps. Side steps, or at least a mock up, must be the next thing done. Whats peoples thoughts? I needs a bit of depth to it as the exhaust pipe will run under the passenger side, but does it look to chunky / out of place? I also feel it needs some sort of ramp into it at the front at rear where it transitions to the wings. The angled intersections doesnt look right to me, plus at the front if I do it right it'll give the clearance for the exhaust to come through. |

Two things jump out straight away on that, the first is the way it sharply goes from horizontal to the angle of the wing at the front, the looks like it should have at least a slight radius in it. The other is the very straight line of the outer edge of the board, it feels like it should pull in just a bit at the rear wing so that the radius of the rear wing protudes beyond the line of the running board. The best way I can think to describe what I mean at the back is this Beetle.  |

I sort of think that they're too thick, but at the moment that works for it as the work done on the wings sort of gives it a big fat pinstripe of sorts. I think once that goes due to paint, they will be a bit too thick. I think a very small radius, say 15-20mm will be more than enough to join it all together, including back in to the bodywork where the wings meet. (unsure about full length, probably not) Depends on how removable everything needs to be, I guess. As for the profile, I think straight doesn't look right, either. Introducing a slight curve through the middle, or bringing the whole board in further, and then just lipping the end where it meets the wings, could work. But I also wonder how it would look if the curve was convex and had the same line as the body? Just to throw some other ideas out there.  |
