Reluctantly I am putting this standard 1980 mk2 Escort 4 door 1.3L 4 speed manual in terracotta (burnt orange) up for sale. The wife says it has to go and so it must go to a new home.
It's located in South London, has tax until end of August and MOT until the middle of June.
I would like £1550 for it.
I'm available for you to have a look most evenings after 6 or weekends during the day.
I have been using it as my daily driver for the last couple of months. Before that it was owned and loved by the same person since 1981! He was the second owner having bought it when it was less than a year old.
As you can see the interior is in really good condition and those awesome houndstooth seats had been covered for most of it's life. The fronts are near perfect but there was a bit of sun damage on the top of the rear which we fixed by adding a strip of matching brown leatherette which looks like it should be there.
There are speakers in boxes added to the rear along with some aftermarket seatbealts
The centre console, stereo and graphic equaliser are pure early 80s and although the tape deck works it doesn't sound all that great tbh (the instruction manual is included in a box of bits with the car btw) The clock isn't wired up but it's only two wires so can be done easily.
The car looks pretty tatty in places on the outside but where it's important it's totally solid. The sills are great and when you open the rear doors it looks almost brand new down there.
The door cards and interior in general are in almost perfect condition, although there are a couple of small holes in the rear ones for some aftermarket badges (which have been removed).
The boot is really clean and spotless and the spare wheel and jack is present (there is a vinyl covering for the floor I just didn't take a pic of it for some reason).
The engine is totally standard (like the rest of the car), starts everytime and runs fine. There is a bit of blue smoke when you first press the pedal but literally just that first dab. It's not going to set any speed records but it keeps up with traffic quite happily, sits at 70 on the motorway and it's only really up steep hills you notice it's not got a roaring beast under the bonnet
Everything underneath is clean, has been looked after properly and it's all lubricated and functioning as it should be. No iffy noises or anything.
The only odd noise with the car is the clutch pedal vibrates sometimes. It works fine and doesn't do it all the time and I got used to it but it's a tiny bit annoying I guess.
So here's what lets the car down - it's got some fairly agricultural repairs on the front wings (both sides).
If I was keeping it I would have fitted new wings and I suspect it will need them at some point in the not too distant future but it's all solid and obviously got through some MOT tests as it is.
There's also a few litle holes on the edges on some of the doors, they just need a bit of filler and touching in really but the passenger door has a bigger hole and bit of metal stuck onto it. The rear arches are both a bit crumbly, one side might be fixable but the other will probably need new metal putting in to do it properly.
The car comes with a box of stuff like terracotta aerosol cans, plugs, points, air filter, mud flaps, pipes, door protectors, bulbs and various other bits and bobs and it also has the most comprehensive history of any car I have ever owned.
It has almost every MOT, tax disc, receipt for work done etc. It also has several cool period brochures along with the owners manual. The previous owner also got the details of the original owner who bought the car new and it also has the bill of sale from when he go it too.
Anyway it will need a bit of bodywork to get it back looking it's best but it's a solid, reliable, taxed and MOTed Escort that could be rolling restored to mint for not a lot of money!
I would have got all these bits sorted over the summer and I really wouldn't be selling if the wife would let me keep it and I promise I'll try not to embarass you by crying when I hand over the keys
