Hey all, My company bought this car to use on a film shoot. It came with 11 months MOT, but for the purpose of showing diligence we took it to another test, where it failed rather spectacularly on a rotten chassis, leaking exhaust, split steering rack gaiters and headlight aim out of whack. Bruce took a look at it with a view to welding it up, but it turns out most of the rear quarter panel is made of filler. So, this car is suitable as a spares, breaker or donor. It still runs and drives and was a lot of fun for the few days I had it. 184,000 miles Red Small rip in the hood on the passenger side Boot has a puddle in it

Bump.
I really need this gone as it's in my friend's garden and is a bit of an eyesore.

I'd happily just bodge that hole with filler again, it otherwise looks good! When did the tax/mot run out?

Some people reckon you could make about £1k back from breaking it, I have neither the time, inclination or space to do so.

Haha it's ok Paul, I know who you are from SWPC and you're a legend.
I just felt like writing silly replies.
I wonder if this will be detrimental to my 'for sale' thread.

This thing drives brilliantly, engine is so sweet - it's just a shame the chassis and sills are beyond (economically) saving. It's far worse than it looks in the photos! The car is now on the Area 52 ramp (again) but this time it's not coming off until it's a bare shell. If anyone needs any bits: retrorides.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=pfsw&action=display&thread=129752Rear wishbones & hubs are already on another car and the front ones reserved (didn't have time to take them off today) but if anyone wants any MX5 bits, please let me know? If you do, please post any requests in the thread ^linked there^ or PM me. Corbs, I'll give you a call Monday morning....

I need to read properly, I didn't know it was t&t'd. I was asked to look at the car because it had just failed a recent MOT on a lot of rust (both outer sills at the rear, both inner sills at the rear, floorpan, chassis rail and front subframe mount) as well as a few other things. That was before I started digging and found a lot more rot as well as a cracked chassis rail! Before the most recent test and subsequent failure it had 11 months MOT (Corbs bought the car with a 'so called' fresh MOT), but the recent failure superceeds any remaining MOT, so basically without carrying out all the work required, the car no longer has an MOT. I don't recall there being any tax but I haven't looked at that. Obviously there is a question as to how a car can get an MOT with this much rot (there is a LOT of it....far more than shown in the above photos) but without going into the full story of how/why Corbs' company bought the car, it was deemed too much hassle to chase up how it could have passed in this state and the decision was made to sell the car on for spares. I am now breaking the car and, having seen a few rusty MX5's and welded up quite a few more, I can confidently say that this car is beyond economical repair. The amount of work needed to get the chassis and bodywork sorted for the MOT wouldn't be worth it when a rust free version can be bought for about £600.
