yea the white ones are awesome but they are tiny! 13 x 8 so really small in the arches and stick out a mile! The back ones are my preferred choice but I need to redrill the PCD fist...Apparently I don't like to do things the easy way.....

Your front suspension is exactly the same set up as the Vivas. Interesting to see as I want to fit coilovers to that. Bookmarked

Cheers for the replys guys, hopefully the stance will be spot on with the coilovers and new wheels. The wheelarches are pretty big so the 15" steels should fill it better than the 13s and i can adjust the rideheight to be spot on with the coilovers!
Doea anyone know the best way to repair the sills? I thought a cut out the rusty bits and drill out the spotwelds along the lower joint and weld in a repair panel?

i like this lots...old fords and rust, my sierra likes rot too. if you are wanting to avoid replacing the sills you are right in what you say, drill out the spot welds and try and pull the inner outer and intermedite sill apart and then chop and weld a new bit in. I'm in the process of doing just that on my sierra I'm in Norwich if you wanted to see the mess it makes

very nice looking and cool sounding motor ;D should be a nice grunty 180bhp when the megasquirt gets mapped i'm running Gaz coilovers on the front of my granada (pretty much the same setup, but longer arms ), and currently have the lower mounts on some angle iron and bolted to the original damper mounts. been ok so far, but waay to soft on the springs at the mo what size coilovers are they, and what kind of spring rate are you looking to use?

Haha, yea rust is a curse word! Not living in norfolk anymore but my rents still live up there. So more happened tonight, I borrowed a lathe and parted off some some tube to be welded into the wishbone, ill let the pics do the talking.... Tubes aligned in position Tacked And welded And finally shock test fitted.. More when I do it!

the tubes want supporting at the shocker end, as the leverage is going to crack around those welds.

looks good , but as said above it needs a bit more strength on the bottom arm ,
id weld a thickish washer each side to be safe,.

Yea the ends of the tube are going to be supported by a brace which is welded to the lower part of the wishbone so when its done I don't think its going anywhere!

single sheer its called when only supported at one end, although not quite the same as the bolt goes through both sections.
might also find it will need little spreader plates round the tubing outter ends.
its gonna be awesome though, double wishbones and spring/damper acting on the same points. cant really get much better on a road car.

Wooo...so heres an update! Got the coilovers finished, reinforced the mounts and fitted them with some uprated springs (30% more than the 30% prated ones I had already as it still handled like a boat! Cranked the shocks up to max and very happy with the result! The final ride height isnt set yet but Ill do that when I get the new wheels sorted (Being drilled at the moment, cant wait!) So with that done its time to move to the rear..... Had the rear damper off and springs out (forgot photos here...) and started checking the mounts and making some measurements...looking at the top damper mounts I don't know if they are going to be strong enough on their own, even seam welded to the body (separate thread in Technical!) Wanting time to ponder I decided to take on the wheel arch rust...started a little bit better than this but I got carried away before taking pics: Some sparks later.. It got worse though... Saw a little patch on the end of the sill...it turned to a hole.. Which then found its way to the rear jacking point as well: RUBBISH....I've never really done body work and not that keen on it so debating weather to just pay someone to fix the rusty bits! While I was packing the car to go home I caught a glimpse of the cortina through the half closed door, with the dark outside and light in the workshop I couldn't resist..... More later!

No probs Dave, the shocks are £50 each plus vat and the springs are about £15 plus vat so the lot cost £180 (postage and stuff too) from rally design. The reason I went to the bother (and expense!) was now I can adjust the ride height very easily and also different springs are cheap with a massive range rather than just floppy or slightly less floppy!

This looks awesome! hadn't realised the coilover units were that cheap from Gaz either, might have to have a look see for the sierra methinks at some stage... Keep up the awesome work!

Cheers for the comments guys, keeps the motivation up when you keep putting a screwdriver through the body! The coilovers are cheap cos they are the universal kind, think car specific ones are probably a bit more expensive bit havent looked into it myself!
