Firstly i am fine.
But secondly i now have a smashed up van and don't know really what to do with it.
As some of you might know I run around in a little Peugeot partner, which i managed to avoid a massive collision hitting someone in the rear and opted for the ditch/hedge!
I managed to get it towed to work with a landy so its secure and not on the roadside, but wondered if i could pick your brains for advice....
My first thoughts are to take the wheels off and sell them, and scrap the rest.
I paid 375 for it two years ago so its not the most expensive purchase, but know i wont find anything decent for small money, but thinking its not worth claiming on insurance due to my premiums rising and what not....and think the front buldhead is bent so a rather expensive repair. The engine was still running when i cam to a halt, but wont start now!
Thoughts please......photos to follow when i get home from work!!!!
Thanks
A bit of a shaken Rob!

Glad you are OK.
I avoided having an accident with someone else, by having an accident on my own a while ago. I think I'd do it differently next time.
Do you intend to try and find another van the same - and if you have storage why not keep it and use to help make running the new one cheaper - it could almost pay for itself with a windscreen, starter or another combination of bits.
Otherwise, has it got £100 - £150 worth of wheels? Surely it would scrap for somewhere over £100, that would equal a pretty cheap couple of years motoringeven if you just cut your losses and started again.

Glad to hear you are ok Is there a fuel cut off switch fitted to the van, don't know a great deal about Pugs but i know most modern cars have them, if so its probably "tripped" in the crash and might just need resetting. Its hard to say what to do with the van otherwise, it will depend on the extent of the damage and how much to fix. If you can sell the wheels the the van should weigh in for £100 + unless you can break it for spares. If your young and want to keep the premiuims down id say bite the bullet and leave the insurance alone

Glad to hear you're ok.
If it were me, I'd take the hit on the van and retrieve whatever you can from scrap and wheels. I don't know how old you are, but it could easily cost a lot more in insurance premiums.
I found myself in exactly the same situation with a Focus that was worth about 2.5k a few years ago. As it turned out it was repairable with just bolt on bits (subframes, bumpers, rads etc...), but I worked out it would be cheaper to just scrap it and buy a new car without getting the insurance involved.

Yeah, 100% definitely don't claim on your insurance. Even if the insurance pay out £500 or whatever, they'll rake it all back and then some over the next few years.
If I were you I'd have a quick look on eBay for any bits that sell for OK money (Bosch diesel pump perhaps?) and strip them and the wheels off and weigh the rest in with the back of the van full of any scrap metal you have lying around. It's £170 ish per tonne at the moment.

plus, your excess will be around £250, which theyll take out of whatever the settlement is, so youll get close to sod all by claiming. id just fill it full of wibblepoo and frag it, move on to something else. its only a ropey old berlingo,, theres plenty of other cool enough stuff out there sub 500 notes.

Also glad to hear you're ok and can only echo the sentiments written above. Flog the wheels, let it get turned into washing machines/bean cans/microwaves and get something similar. Though Pogs suggestion of flogging it as salvage/repairs is worth looking into. I've been wishing I did the same for a while.

Oh no! Poor Daffodils! ;D Seriously, glad you are ok, and you NEED to keep the stickerbombed (and now almost removed ) wing as a garage wall trophy.

To get a standard A40 this low, you'd have to dig a hole to put it in

it don't look that bad I'd be doing some hammer work and fitting another wing and bumper

The fact that it doesn't run anymore has probably got something to do with all that wiring behind the wing getting scroped up.

Lucky man I've carried people out of cars with similar damage to find out later that they've passed away then on the other hand I've been to jobs where the cars are unrecognizable and the people are standing at the side of the road.

Like everyone else has said, glad that you are in 1 peice and unhurt. Looking at the pic's, the structure of it looks pretty straight still. How much MOT/tax is left on it? If there is a reasonable amount left (and you can get it running again), i would be tempted to patch it up with a scrapyard bumper/wing/indicator and at least run it till the MOT is out.

thats pants man, but luckily you are ok, looking at it, it could of been so much worse, still i think i would patch it up if you can get it running, and then scout round for another van, and make sure you keep the stickerbombed door!

I've driven worse as a dailly even if you don't want to drive it afterwards (my dad was the same after a crash a few years ago) try to get the engine running - if anything, it makes it more sellable, and you get some experience to boot
