I know were some of us are not fans of top gear here (most of are fans), but the cars are loveley and the specials are always great fun to watch, and who remembers hammonds love for oliver from the botswana special that he had it imported. at the time of import it had a tidy up where areas were welded and repaired with a partial respary but now it is reciving a full restoration probably furthur than we would take our cars! www.topgear.com/uk/photos/richard-hammond-oliver-opel-kadett-gets-rebuilt-2012-04-11I'm unsure of how to embed images from different websites but I hope my first real input will interest people

how did you do that? or did you have to host it through photobucket?
thought people might apreciate this as it didnt turn into some wreck like the rest of top gears adventure cars

That is quite refreshing. I'm so used to the Top Gear guys trashing everything they get hold of that it's heartening to know at least one car is getting some love, especially since it's an early Kadett in a less than lovely colour.

I had a feeling this would happen, it was obvious hammond loved this car and the fact he brought it back with him made me happy. oliver is such a quirky little thing ;D

only top gear car ive actually seen is the toyota 4x4 that went to the north pole and i think they built a few of them but know where one is parked in prestine condition but the security to get to the compound is tight so you couldnt get pictures unless it goes out to car shows it was in a compound on an army camp in hampshire cant give location.

Oldspice got it in one, PC mag gave it a makeover a couple of years back, including electrics and paintwork. That'll the renovation work mentioned at the top. I have mixed feelings about trying to make the car look new again. I for one would prefer to see the old boy wearing his battle scars and wide wheels which made him famous in the first place, much more interesting to look at. I do remember PC stated their makeover was in preparation for some forthcoming big tv work - I wonder what that was supposed to have been?

The TV thing was a kids show on CBBC I think. Can't remember the name of it at the moment. Maybe Blastlab?

This annoys me. They have pointlessly destroyed hundreds of classics over the years, a lot of which people can only dream of owning. Then when one of them decides they fall in love with one, it's cherished, imported and looked after. What about the Lancia they destroyed in the same Botswana special? Or the Rolls-Royce they killed at christmas just gone..?
I'd love to buy Hammond's Kadett that he loves so much, crush it & cube it, then deliver it back to him. Maybe then he might realise the value of the rest of these cars to the world.

They can't win with people like you really can they, damned if they do, damned if they don't. If you take the blinkers off you'll learn all three of the presenters are keen car fans with admirable personal collections and a genuine enthusiasts level of dedication.
