I find it quite weird how there is talk of different scenes for this car, and how taking different elements from different scenes may be a deliberate poke at these scenes. Is car modifying really that contrived? ... people really do things for the sake of 'being in a scene'? I think you know the answer to that question. I'd like to think it was built because its what the owner truly wanted, and leave it at that.

Here's the thing: it seems to me that he's done all those mods as a kind of statement, whether it be an appreciative nod to the things he likes, or a sly dig at the 'scenes' he finds daft. I don't for one moment believe that that is his ideal car, something that he loves purely for its own features. I do 'get it', in fact it made me chuckle and I appreciate the way it's been executed, but it's basically just a real-life cartoon. As has been stated on here, modifying a car to suit your personal taste is cool, modifying just to make a point or provoke a reaction is not. And for that reason, I'm oot. It's still funny, though. I find it quite weird how there is talk of different scenes for this car, and how taking different elements from different scenes may be a deliberate poke at these scenes. Is car modifying really that contrived? Aren't we all just exposed to a number of different things as we go about our daily lives, and our hobby? therefore, we get influenced by all sorts of things, and naturally then build a car that is a meting pot of all that way see, like, and think will work on a car? Or am I being too generous, and in fact, people really do things for the sake of 'being in a scene'? Still quite a nice car..... I say it's up to the individual, if they want to make a statement with a car then fairplay, if they want to be 'scene' then best of luck to them, it's not our place to judge, however to say that's what this Beetle owner intended would be pure speculation on our part.

Personally, i love it, the nods at different 'scenes' just gives me hope that the car scene isnt as contrived and segregated as i sometimes fear \ One question though.... curb feelers? i've never seen or heard of those before! what are they? gonna get reading on this i think!

....One question though.... curb feelers? i've never seen or heard of those before! what are they? gonna get reading on this I think! They are there purely to stop you boshing your shiny wheels or marking your whitewalls on curbs, you instead hear these clicking/scraping along first. A carry-over from US lowriders and bombs.

I'm not a fan of tat all over a car, so lose the tat and its fine for me. I did smile at the moulding work on the speaker pods. I like when cars are more about this kind of detail than dream catchers and stickers and the like

if the thread poses a question ie yeah or neigh doesnt that deserve an answer then?polarising>positive or negative<...as for why, it looks like a heap of bits from the scene but which scene?each to there own ,what ever gets you through the night and all that , as for my opinion i read yours with out comment as its your opinion, we cant all be the same thats why we come on here because of the diversity of the cars bikes junk and treasures on show.

I like it, in many ways its pretty run of the mill but there are some very contrasting touches in there too. I'd image the 2.2 flat four is probably the most entertaining modification though, been in a few beetles with standard engine and they've all been terribly slow, would love to go in one with a bit of poke it must be terrifying!

It's a thumbs up from me but I'd lose the roll bar though as you're more likely to bash you and your passengers brains out with it in the event of an accident.

i really like it a bit different from the usual bugs you see. would like to see it without the roll bar or a full on race style cage

I was sold at the sight of Over-Rider Bumpers and Horns on the roof. ...I'm easily pleased

The engine gets a thumbs up from me. The rest is done to a high standard but if this was lined up with other bugs at a show, would it really stand out? (maybe that's what the owners was getting at)
