the rears failed today on the mot but mainly the handbrake, they said some good use will see them through, however.... the car is insured but no tax and a failed MOT how am I supposed to legally work these brakes? as the pads are new with shot blasted rears and does anyone know where you can get seals for pas systems? as its leaking badly through the track arms and a picture of a shiney disk and caliper

What about just shunting it about a bit with handbrake slightly applied?

Clean up all the friction surfaces with some rough emery cloth, make sure the brakes are applying (ie put the handbrake on and check if both wheels lock) grease up and free off any sticky mechanisms and your good to go.

the calpers etc were all rebuilt, the disks wer shot blasted, but they need bedding in to bring the efficiency up. the car after its mot is at my work about 6 doors down from the MOT station, so I'm kinda stuffed

Well the simple legal answer if your sure everything is working correctly is that the car can't be driven other than to a place of repair for mot purpose. Just bomb up the street a few times applying the brakes to bed them in or get the garage to do it and let them take the rap off the coppers. 20 quid in the pocket of the mechanic better than 6 points?

I'm sure if you offered them a drink they would let you "run" the car on the rollers for a shrt while to bed the brakes on before the MOT, should be only a partial test fee too

Exactly. Just keep bombing up and down the road until the brakes are bedded in (won't take long) and if caught just say your coming from or going to mot repair/retest. Simples my dear meerkat.... Chances of being caught ? Slim to none if you keep it quite and do it quick.

Or... Book another mot miles away as nobody has yet tested the "reasonable distance" law yet and drive in the approx direction, once brakes sorted head back. Then cancel mot, rebook free retest at local, job done. Or... Go now and bin it up and down the road in the dark. I took a mk2 capri up an industrial estate not long back to pour engine syrup down it and gun the throttle to clear blue smoke. Bloody worked ha ha.

One thing I haev spotted and I would be rather worried about if I was yourselfthose pads are far to small for the discs in my opinion.I suspect something rather wrong here tbh just an observation

When that happened to me a few months back -I let the MOT tester take it for a blast. Came back with a big smile on his face & a pass certificate.

even new components should pull up for the mot test perfectly fine, unless theres something wrong the pads in that pic do appear to not really cover enough of the disc though what vehicle is it on any way?

And, make sure your wheel bearings are adjusted properly - in some systems the first bit of braking pressure only serves to pull disc and hub back into line.

What about just shunting it about a bit with handbrake slightly applied? That's what i do when i fit new rear pads just before the MOT then i take the longer route to the test via a petrol station (one of the few good reasons that is acceptable not to go straight to the MOT
