They sit there like they are on a blind date that is not going well at all. You've put into words my thoughts exactly! Big up Jonny Smith! He knows his onions! He's in the latest PC mag writing about his Merc W123 200T wagon, saving it from insurers who wanted to write it off for a tiny prang.

I REALLY, REALLY hope 5th gear goes away as soon as possible, it actually makes me UNCOMFORTABLE when i watch it, its just wrong, like a 15 year old trying far too hard to impress some elders or an out of touch office boss trying to be cool at the christmas party....etc and please, i don't want to see VBH on screen as a presenter ever again. Who thought that her style was in any way acceptable. although a mate of mine has met Tom Ford, and apparently he's a lovely chap, again though - not presenting material.

Penski : "Some straveller-haired 'yoof' who they trot out whenever they want to seem 'wacky' and down with the kids." Dude owned a Juiced Jag Sovreign (I think),.. knows his beans.. should be doing some RR style interviewing with him. hmmm...speak to the current owner and find out how much he had to fix on the jag...here's your starters...replace engine, fix rot, get car booked in for repsray to sort more rot... the jag that was built as a mag project car...

Ahhhh but mag project cars are rarely built properly,.. just look at the discussions on project bottle rocket.. ... at least he was modifying something interesting,.. and he writes for PC

I watched it last night and paused it during the 205 strip to say to my GF "What the f**k is wrong with this programme?"
It's so awkwardly uncool in the way it tries so hard to appeal. You really do get the impression a lot of it is dreamt up by the type of people who have "What out I'm crazy" coffee mugs.
I do admire the presenters though, they try very hard.

It's the manner in which he is 'used' by the producers which comes across as incredibly trite and stilted. *n

I'm with Penski on this one. I also find it a little worrying that anyone fancies VBH as she has a very plain face and a body like a young boy.... Having said that, she has a better repoire with the camera than any of the others whilst Platos skill is amazing (Tiffany dell has the personality of a beech tree and his skills are well past there best). Could I do better, NO but I don't get paid to do it either...

Sadly, 5th gear is so desperately poor that I don't even bother watching it. I can't stand croaky voiced man-thing VBH and whilst it would appear Mr Ford has the enthusiasm he really doesn't quite have what it takes to be a presenter. Tiff isn't a great presenter either and never has been but gets away with it by being... well, by just being Tiff. Most of the subject matter varies from dull to desperate with rare occasional high points such as Red Victor but those small blips of worthy viewing are simply not enough to make me endure the rest of their show. It's tragic that one of the very few shows us car enthusiasts get served has to be tosh There's are thousands of car enthusiasts of all types in the UK and an endless wealth of potentially interesting subject matter with which to constuct as brilliant motoring series. To me it seems that little effort and thought goes into the production of 5th gear and it's reflected in it's lackluster shows. -Ed

How about a Retro version of Scrapheap challenge?
Four teams, each with £1,500 and three weeks to source, prep and build a suitable Retro Mowtah for RR-Show 2007?
;D
