The facelifted Panda that came out after the Y10 shared some of the FIRE engines and also gained the Omega rear suspension, I didn't know that they shared more than that?

I've always been intrigued by the Y10, I really like the idea of titchy luxury cars. The Turbos were supposedly very torque-steery, but I wouldn't mind that at all. Can't remember the last time I saw one on the roads over here, although I see quite a few when I'm in Bavaria in the summer for some reason. 1988 Lancia Y10 Fila by coopey, on Flickr

I had one, a Fire LX, which was comfortable, and economical (E 44 JBP, if anyone knows it). Must admit, I didn't do much with it, as I bought it from a Fiat/Lancia specialist and got them to maintain it. Mechanically, it never missed a beat but electrics can be typically '80s Italian, with a dash that can light up like Blackpool Illuminations, but apart from that there's not a lot I can tell you. I'd have another one though!

I remember the advertising; it was very Eighties high-tech and aspirational.

My first car was a Y10 Fila which was great although it rotted like a pear. If it's good structurally then great, Guts are almost all interchangeable with a Panda other than some differences in the front struts (don't buy Panda lowering springs!!) and the GTie engine I'm not familiar with as it's not related to the FIRE engines I've had (or the 903 that was also fitted to the Panda I believe). If you want guidance then there's some fans on the Fiat Forum Panda (classic) section and there's been a couple of rebuilds documented on there squirrelled away on the 'other Fiats' section. I actually still have some of my old Y10 on the Panda including an exhaust front section, gearbox, and some interior trim, and had rear springs/shocks for a while too. Not however all that helpful for modding since the Panda is not exactly well catered for with tuning parts anyway and a lot of popular mods for Pandas just involve finding Y10 bits you've got already. What did you have in mind for it?

I think the GT ie has the 1301cc Fiat 127 1300GT engine with fuel injection, not the 1.3 fitted to other Fiats like the Uno, Strada etc.

Wouldnt be this one you bought would it? (cant imagine 2 of these rare cars coming up for sale so recently) Hit it right on the button there PS. It's arriving tonight, I am very much looking forward to my first Italian car, just dreading the electrics, which seem to be working but we all know the reputation Italians have for their unique take on how electrics should work.

Got it yesterday evening and drove it to work today, brilliant fun. The peddles are tiny and really close together, everything squeaks and rattles and the engine is really revvy and responsive. The lights on the dash are already a source of amusement, with the electronic check flashing the low oil light at me (I know it isn't) and the door being allegedly open a couple of times. Compared to the Sierra it seems tiny, but seems pretty chuckable. I think I am going to like this car.

That's actually what everyone on the continent says about English cars as well but hey, all cars of this era have dodgy electrics. Which got me thinking, has any car ever been deemed electrically reliable after twenty or thirty years?

Iv'e got a Y10 Fila. I forgive it most things for its agility. Electric windows are intermittent. This is a good site www.y10turbo.4t.com/

Well after 2 days use, I can confrim that they are great fun to drive. It handles well, but isn't massively grippy, if that makes any sense. APart from the constantly flashing low oil light and the front windscreen washer not working, it is pretty much perfect. I will take a look at these on Saturday and give it a service, then get a good look underneath for the dreaded corrosion, but from what I have seen so farit looks sound.
