I am perplexed by “vaidaslt” random dr jekyll and mr hyde‘s comments?? I'm beginning to think he's Austin McHale or Christy Farrell - both of them didn't much car for the car Top car, top owner, needs to be completed, end of! I'm not sure about the first two but yes to the third - it needs to be completed

That would be nice a Track Day of some sort let us know love to see it. I also saw it at a stage in Wicklow Mountains minus the Tail-gate. I'm sure you know the "story"...

Yep - it was loose so removed to prevent unexpected failure and danger to following competitors I had several conversations with Mickey Eiffe (who put the car together) - I'd have liked to bring it over for him to see it as he was hugely helpful but he passed away a couple of years ago - that's probably my biggest regret in terms of the glacial progress of this project

I'm looking forward to the build of this car, when the time is right for you to do it. Yes, its nice to breeze through a build and enjoy having it on the road. But there is also something really liberating about not having to look at the clock ( or calendar ) , just getting it done in your own time, and to just enjoy the process. I wanted to do this car much earlier but life doesn't always let you do what you want I think its great that you are willing to bring this car back from the dead and do right by it. I have another Monza to bring back from the dead first - this one is my fault as I rolled it I understand completely. I have a car that has been waiting for its turn for about 30 years. It means a lot to me ( eventhough it looks to others like it doesnt ), and I will get to it. When the time is right.

The emerging of this thread has really sparked how much I miss my old Monza now, especially after seeing it in such a poor state recently, perhaps Ian you should add this to your collection!!! 😩😩😩😩😩 Not sure how salvageable this is now though?

Really enjoyable thread as the cars history is pieced back together. Hope you get some more info on those missing few years.

Kim's Monza was originally a road going 2.5 Royale, so not the ex Lanfranchi car, but Kim did buy the Lanfranhi engine and installed it when he converted the road car to rally spec. I know this because i saw the car as a Royale and i looked after the engine/ rebulds and subsequent engine/ fuel injection mods. He sold the car to Ian Powel whome i built up the 3.4 24 valve engine that was last in it for hillclimb use. Ian was later sadly killed in his road car accident and i helped move the car on to a Scottish owner who's name i cant remember. I too hope this car is still somewhere as it was very strong and would be difficult to crush ! By beloved 3.4 Lotus blocked naturally aspirated 24 valve engine must be somewhere hopefully!

It's lovely when someone drops into this thread and fills in some blanks - OK they aren't blanks that are related to McHales car but as I'm a Monzaholic it's wonderful to find a bit of back history on Ian Powels car which was an inspiration for my Monza Ian was later sadly killed in his road car accident and i helped move the car on to a Scottish owner who's name i cant remember. darn- would be nice to find it out - the car hasn't resurfaced since sale - at the time it was advertised in the ABS club magazine I couldn't afford it I too hope this car is still somewhere as it was very strong and would be difficult to crush ! By beloved 3.4 Lotus blocked naturally aspirated 24 valve engine must be somewhere hopefully! I thought it was a full 3.6? - Lotus Block, Crank and rods with custom pistons for higher compression - I'm sure that's what Ian said to me

Hello!
Sorry I've not been around much recently but had a wee bit of a turbulent time of it the past few years.
Anyway, I'm keen to catch up with this and a number of other things.
Also, I don't actually own a car right now so I don't want any of you guys leading me astray, OK?!?!?!?

It looks like it was pulled out a lake but it goes like stink and only failed MOT on a balljoint. I'm rather happy with it but I have invested in a LOT of paint. Sadly not old enough for these halloed pages.
