Well done.
Be proud and pleased.
These things don't just happen by accident
I did a '63 Beetle 25 years ago and know how much work goes in.

I feel like this video has taken as long to put together as the car but I finally finished it last night.
Here is the full story of Festers restoration in under 16 minutes;

Its been a while since the last update and Fester had been tucked away for the winter but back at the start of May he came out for his last ever MOT; The last MOT by Dave Campbell, on Flickr The last MOT by Dave Campbell, on Flickr As it should it passed with flying colours. Since the MOt we have been down to the Stirling and district classic car show at Bridge of Allen; Sun Bug by Dave Campbell, on Flickr bridge of Allan show 2018 24 by Dave Campbell, on Flickr (Full set of Bridge of Allen show pics here flic.kr/s/aHsmhWjVei ) This brought up a small issue. After around one hour on the motorway there was a small missfire developing. Pulled over and nothing was hot but wouldnt re-start (I think it was flooding). Waited 5 minutes and it started fine and pulled back on the motorway and up to 60mph with no problem. Whats weirder is it did exactly the same on the way home. I will get to the bottom of this and have started with fitting an electronic ignition module so we will see how that goes. I also ran through the front brakes (shoes, cylinders, springs) and there will be a video of this to follow. Taking the car to the Volksfling show in Biggar this Sunday so if you are in the area drop by. Dave.

Love the cars and happy you're back with updates...
Not that this applies to the issue you're suffering, but on an early Beetle I had there was a similar issue, which occasionally got much worse once the fuel tank was getting low. On one across America trip, the car quit on me twice. The first time, sitting 15 or 20 minutes on the roadside saw it start and run fine once again.
The second time it happened on that trip was when climbing the east side of the Rocky Mountains out of Denver, Colorado in the middle of a blizzard. Headed steeply up the grade, no amount of sitting helped, so I disconnected the fuel line at the engine, put my lips to the line and blew for all I was worth. Finally, there was a release of the obstruction (likely rust) and fuel moved freely back to the front mounted tank. Success!
Of course, once I stopped blowing and was about to reconnect to the carb, the fuel came gushing back, covering me with gas before I had the connection made once again. Middle of the night, temps below freezing, blizzard in the Rockies with another 1000 miles to go..., but at least she fired once again and I completed the trip to Los Angeles on schedule...
Just a thought,
Lance

That sounds like a hell of a drive there Lance.
I had thought fuel starvation but it was running fine at high revs until it faltered and then ran fine after the short stop.
The old set of points I removed were quite dirty and had a small peak so I'm wondering if the surface was breaking down and closing them up after a while so have fitted electronic ignition instead.
Proof will be in the pudding after the hour drive I'm just about to do.....Wish me luck.
Dave.

I thought fuel starvation too (wondered if it was rust and junk building up in fuel filter.... it sucks up to the outlet when run hard, then drops back down when you stop for a bit)
Sounds like you may have found it though

Still no joy, its still playing up.
Thing that puts me off fuel starvation is the fact it runs fine at high revs for an hour then will missfire after coming off the motorway and trying to pull away from a roundabout at the bottom of the slip road.
I'm starting to think there is an issue with the accelerator pump in the carb. If I am careful with my right foot it will pull easily up to 60 but if I try to gun it it missfires. Likewise when I left the roundabout after the motorway it was getting back up to speed but if I tried to hurry it it seems to just flood.
Misses a brand new solex carb at the show by 10 minutes as well so think I will try re-building the one thats fitted.
Other than that it was a great day out.

I did notice it was roasting hot when I pulled over on the way to the Bridge of Allen show but dismissed that as the coil was brand new last year when I built the engine up. I might steal the coil from something else to try but I will need to do an hour on the motorway to test it.

Stick the spare one in the glove box next you go out and swap it out if it starts misbehaving, you know for deffo then . I don't think they should be getting super roasting hot ...........I've not tried touching (licking) mine after a long run though.....

Still not properly looked into the running problem but a few weeks ago I replaced front brake shoes and wheel cylinders and filmed the process to make a how to video;
