Hi All.
Late last year, I set up a business specialising in the restoration and modification of anything with wheels. While I was looking for premises, I found this ex-dairy farm just east of Shrewsbury. Andy the farmer couldn't have been more helpful, especially when I started moving all my Datsuns into his cow sheds and barns.
Andy got fed up with the early hours and long days so he and his wife covered a large field with gravel and started storing caravans. Since then, the buildings and other farm-type facilities have all been/are being converted to vehicular storage. Its on top of a hill so its very well drained and there's a constant breeze blowing. Perfect for cars, even outside.
Caravan storage varies according to size, cheapest is £18/month. Prices start at £15/month for a large car, say Datsun Cedric, down to £10/month for a Sunny/Cherry. Keep 2 cars there and its £9/month each. Boats, buses, trucks whatever, all welcome too.
If it helps, I can collect cars from wherever (as long as my expenses and time are covered). I tow with a lwb Patrol and a coachbuilt trailer and am fully insured. As for maintenance on site...I can carry it out to whatever level you need, (full restos catered for), or I can lend you a dry space with tools and power (and coffee) to do your own. Got loads of spares handy too (mostly VW and Datsun).
As I say, you need never be forced to get rid of a car due to lack of storage space again.
Jon

Pretty good service there.... be nice to just be able to ring up and request a car to be delivered - "Aaah yes, today I think I'll drive the 240Z. Bring it over would you please?" I've got much the same thing over here, smaller scale but my mechanic friend has a few barns for storing cars and parts, just keeps them dry and out of the way. he's a bit of a demon with the spanners too

Top service, shame it's a bit far away... ;D Jon, could you restore my Corolla for me? On a more serious note, sometimes the thought enters my mind that I should just borrow a lot of money and have it done as I'm never going to do it myself, but how much would/should a full resto set me back, can anyone name a ballparktype amount? (It's a pretty solid basis with a messy interior, couple of dents in the roof and stuff like that)

How much to stick a 3.5 V8 in my tatty white 1850? Whats an 1850??? Sorry, but for years I have been afflicted with tunnel vision and it was always pointing at Datsuns with an occasional flicker at Colts and Hondas. This forum has really shown me how cool other marques can be though some still leave me a little dubious. As for sticking a V8 in it....I'm sure I can, whatever it is. Have grinder and MIG, can travel. Can possibly even supply a Rover and box. Jon

How fantastic! Probably the most common problem with a project is space to store it. I've had to pass on no end of bargain cars due to no space so this sort of service is heaven sent! Good man JohnSedric, there should be more people like you! May well use your services in the near future

Top service, shame it's a bit far away... ;D Jon, could you restore my Corolla for me? how much would/should a full resto set me back, can anyone name a ballparktype amount? Hi. Amsterdam is not too far away, honest....perfectly willing to travel there, stay a week or two and bring your Corolla home. As for cost, there are too many variables. My hourly rate is just £20, whatever the job. Paint can cost from £13/litre but you can pay over £500/litre depending on type. Are repair panels available or would they have to be made from scratch? Condition of the car? Has someone bodged it before. It usually takes ages to undo a bodged repair before a proper job can be started. I recently saw a lovely 2-door Corolla in an exporter's yard. It was virtually rustfree but he'd sat a Peugeot pick-up on top of it. Real shame. Jon

That is a shame... nice mirrors though, I've bought similar ones for mine. Make it into a Morris Minor style convertible?
If I had an extra bedroom and a workshop I'd invite you over ;-) My Corolla is in pretty good shape, roof is dented (two smallish dents), floors have to be welded where the door rubbers deteriorated and it leaked, inner front wings have been 'repaired' with epoxy type stuff, bottoms of doors are rusted but no holes, stuff like that. And it needs a full retrim, seats need stuffing and door panels are verrry dirty... and I think the drivetrain could use a rebuild. Oof, that's quite a list if you type it out!

Forgot: the inner wing thing is the only bodged repair I know off, and repair panels are non existent afaik. It has been resprayed at some point but not well, so it needs a new coat of simple red paint.

That is a very good deal indeed. I've just found a secure unit about 4 miles outside of Ipswich which I'm thinking about going for, 12ft x 27ft for £60.00 a month. Theres not much choice in these parts so I reckon it's pretty good value, what do you guys think? When I've fully stripped the sapporo I'll give you a shout for a quote on the body repairs Jon, £20.00 an hour sounds very good value to me especialy as you know more than most when it comes to Sapporos

12ft x 27ft for £60.00 a month. When I was looking for premises, I couldn't find anything in private hands (until I found my farm) so I was looking at various council-owned units. I couldn't believe the costs involved. Rent was an average of £1100/month, then there were the business rates and service charges and a whole load of what else! Not too difficult for a firm needing to expand and with an income already but for a one-man-band, just starting up, not possible.

No go!! aparently the old dear doesn't have any units left but I suspect that the mention of "old cars" scared her off
