I'm sure most of you know Fiat are releasing a new 500 next year. All very cute....but a bit tame. A few minutes on Microsoft Paint.....et voila. How sweet is that?

Well, it's vaguely going to be the new Ka.
There's shared floorpan development, but the body will be completely different.
I think Ford are ditching the rattly old boat anchor engines and going with the Fiat FIRE derived lumps and JTDs, though. Which is promising.
Being built in the Polski Fiat factory, so it looks like Ford have finally cured the rust problems they continue to have with the current Ka.

Hmmmm, there's a lot of nice touches about the Fulvia, but it looks a bit Vauxhall Tigra (new shape) around the front lights and grille.
*shudder*

Liking that fulvia and liking the fiat 500 - but it's front engined, fwd aaand from memory a corsa in drag, through it's punto connections.
Way to kill a legend.

But the Fulvia always was front engined and FWD.....
Nothing wrong with basing it on the Grande Punto floorpan, either, 'cos it's actually very good - the Fiat suspension settings are vastly superior to the wibblepoo specified by Vauxhall.

no sorry i mean the 500 - should at least have an engine in the back IMO. Oh, right. My mistake. Still don't see the problem, though - it's a city car so it's just right for it's target audience. It would be commercial suicide to do anything too radical in that market sector these days. It's not related to the Grande Punto, though - it's a fresh floorpan design done jointly by Ford and Fiat. Although the concept has been around for a while, the actual final design has come post-GM shared development.

Personally, I love these references to a manufacturers past. With modern safety rules and regulations they do really well to keep the designs looking so good. The 500 looks great and so does the Fulvia.
Why do I feel I'm spending all my time sticking up for things on here lately? ;D

When the Italians design the exterior of a car they do it so much better than certain other carmaking nations. The current fashion for reprieving the look of old designs has not always yielded the best vehicles. However these two look like some of the best of the crop.

I showed Katie the pic of the 500 and she decided there and then what she'd have as a company car if ever given the option.... I think you could definitly do a retro inspired makeover of one (no doubt Fiat will do some special edition Abarths or something ) but I think compared to an old one it will be much less characterful. I suppose that compared to other small modern blandmobiles it might be fun so it'll sell well as a diddy city car. The first one I see with a rear mounted air cooled engine will be the wIn

i reckon you could have fun with one. the ideas and possibilities. I'm not much of a fan of the new beetle [as its just a golf] and the mini [its too big and isnt inovative enough], however the Nuova 500 is a genuinely small car, it looks like the original one, and should still be a fun little car to own. While its not rear-engined, only Porsches are these days. Its not the accepted layout - but it was much more common back in the 60s. the fulvia - well thats just sexy

Not a fan of the Fulvia but really like the take on the Fiat, uses enough of the old, at least, it appears too, I guess it will be different to see in the metal compared to the older version.
