Went and looked at one locally last night.. £400... Needed a bit of work, cab steps, sills etc..some of the cab gutters wern't too clever either... engine was good and strong though, I was particularly happy that it had sliding doors though !! so i could drive around looking like a postman They're much bigger than a VW type 2, about t25 size, perhaps bigger than that actually.... engine access was amusing though, no wonder most of them get run until something breaks ! ;D

I have a Commer question What's a Commer? Never came here as far as I know. Commer was basically the commercial vehicles end of the Rootes group (hillman, sunbeam etc.) and made vehicles in a variety of sizes from car-based vans up to HGV's (I think - Karrier, anyone?). When Rootes was taken over by Chrysler in the 70's, most vans were re-branded as Dodges. The dodge brand continued here into the 80's when it became Renault-Dodge, and then was absolved into Renault. The car production arm became part of Peugeot-Talbot. Hope this clarifies a bit....

That was very accurate. Commer made vans, normally based on Hillman Saloons or the Hillman Husky estate models (both Imps and Minxes had a Husky model), Karrier never made HGVs, their speciality was light lorries, such as council bin lorries and 3.5 ton lorries etc. Commer made the heavier models too, which did go from smaller 4 wheel flatbeds and such up to articulated units carrying up to 24 tonnes on occasion (although the modern 44 tonne GVW lorry was unheard of at the time besides the legendary 100 tonne Scammells.) Commers and Karriers often looked similar, as they shared similar distinctive cab designs but in varying sizes and with different chassis.

Karrier Truck: And a similar (but much older) Commer Truck: Commer Walk Thru Van. One like this used to bring round the fruit and veg when I were a lad... Commer Cob (based on Hillman Minx / Husky) An earlier Minx-based van I hope that little selection makes it all a little clearer in everyone's minds! With thanks to www.fleetdata.co.uk/index.html

We nearly bought one of those once, but it was a total dog even if it was dirt cheap ( about 160 pounds). There is a totally rusted out one about 3 doors down from where I live. I want the engine for the Vogue but I haven't met the owner yet.

Might need a bit of tinkering, I think it might be low compression, buy maybe not. Or even one of the diesel conversions, I've heard of Perkins diesels in them. If you found the owner to talk to him you could see what spec the engine is. Oh, by the way, here's the Commer you lot left out- The Commer Imp, which was similar to the Imp based model of the Hillman Husky, but had a more basic interior, with one or two seats instead of four, one sunvisor instead of two, one opening quarterlight window, and also they had a low compression 875 engine, instead of the normal 875. These pics are courtesy of www.theimpclub.co.ukFor comparison this is a Husky, although unfortunately they don't all come as tasty as this one!

That Commer Walk-thru looks remarkably like the UPS van that makes deliveries round my way... I guess they must still make them? Maybe badged as Dodge and imported from the USA? Would make a very different camper!

Can't shake the feeling the green one's a hearse Can't help thinking that myself! ;D ;D Apparently the Husky is a great practical little car though, there's more space than you'd think. Maybe I should have one for my funeral!! ;D ;D I don't know if the UPS vans are US Dodges, but it could be the case. The Commer Commando was rebadged as a Dodge later on, then the same cab was used on a later Renault, so it's likely.

I think the Anglia 105e Van is one of the coolest Vans you can get (although the are pretty rare now) one of those with a Lotus Cortina engine and a set of Black Four-Spoke Revolutions would do me fine lol

OK, so I was looking for something else, but came across this by accident. Surely is borderline on the now "official" WTF category! cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=2192&item=2496944863&rd=1I'm not sure what's the craziest thing about it....The stuck on bits, the crazy chrome addiction or the insane rear seat option. No, actually it's gotta be the back seat. Which I'm sure I deposited at the local tip about 3 years ago.... ;D ;D ;D

That could be a very nice motor if you tidied up! Here's a bit of van trivia, the Leyland Sherpa van had a good few parts shared with those Austin J4s, to save cash for BL, including the roof and side panels on early Sherpa van models. Isn't it sad that I knew that? ;D ;D

Would make a very different camper! I had a look at one of those 'retro' UPS vans that came to work a while back, as I was wondering what make they were. The tax disc said Mercedes, so I would guess they are coach built on a modern Merc van chassis. For Commer PB info, this site may be useful. classiccamperclub.tripod.com/

... the only injury I sustained was a bumped head when I let the seatbelt of without realizing the car was upside down and that's not really the car's fault.
