New years eve update

Today we had lots of fun and games, the shell is back!

I will start out with the other little bits of progress though, I have cleaned / inspected / rebuilt the calipers ready to refit. The brake and fuel lines are cleaned and 90% painted, and we are pretty much ready to start fitting things back on the car, WHOOP!

I set myself up with everything required



The calipers have been run on the car for 3000 miles then sat stationary for 12 months, finally removed and put on a shelf for another 12 months. I was not surprised but still a little disappointed to see this upon inspection

I proceeded to remove the dust boots, pull the pistons with the help of a small jmmy bar and then inspect the pistons. It looks like we have six usable pistons and two that are scrap from the front and two of the four rears are scrap, replacements will be ordered asap

The old seals were hooked out with an old scribe



The area around the dust boots are wire wheeled until clean, ready for re-assembly. Red rubber grease was applied to EVERYTHING upon re-assembly, this should protect the rubber until the car is back on the road, and prevent any corrosion whilst the car is being built / stored.



Everything back together!



Today the shell came back Not without issue, it half dropped off the dolly whilst being loaded, so there are a couple of scrapes underneath to be touched up, nothing major though.
This following picture is significant, as it is the first part to be put back on the shell, the start of things to come.

Fuel flap back on with some nice stainless button heads





I decided to get the cross bar mount for the steering column and pedals back in, so everything can be hung in place



I am trying to get as many of the painted parts out of wrapping and fitted to the car, so that they can de-gas / set properly in fresh air. Some of the bonnet furniture / vents etc needed studs refitting, duly done with a dab of stud lock -



Everything went back together like a dream



The seats were put in place and loosely bolted, as was the column and pedals, huge mojo boost, although still a huge way to go! I have also decided to go with the stock steering wheel and have it re-trimmed







Next time, we should see the rear subframe start to go back together

Final update before work recommences

The brake and fuel lines are now in, trays over the top and all bolted down. Thank you Mr Toyota for building them right!





The loom has started to go back in too. I was going to thin it out as the vast majority of the HVAC is not there anymore, however everything appears to be interconnected, and unless I do something really clever (unlikely!) we will be better off keeping it as it is, a couple of kilos can be offset with another pound of boost





Nailed down in a few places



I have found the first of a few little loom bodges, mainly by the guys that fitted the Clifford alarm system, it really grates that they have to chop the loom about like this. So....does anyone have a good original one of these connectors? It goes from the ignition barrel to the main fuse board.



I decided to get some of the light fittings in, just more bits that take up less room on the car than they do on the shelf. I have also decided to stick with the zenki rear lights, the black banding will complement the other black details



The wire wheel has also been getting a massive work out again Check out the amount of use it gets!



It also did this, I very quick switched to rigger gloves, less dexterity but a lot more protection! (the bruise is just coming out now, two hours later!)



This is just half of the bolts that have been cleaned, they are all actually in much better condition that I expected, so many will not need plating



They were all required so that I could do this.....



Closely followed by some of this



So by this time next week, we should be ready to drop it likes it's hot Better get on and order up those wheels!

Just read this from start to finish. Noticed the thread started from Newbold Verdon. Its a shame you moved I would of come from Leicester to see this beast.

Excellent work on the car and glad to hear the family is okay.

Kids are doing well now, Ruby is a different child, quite incredible

Oh, and also I love this car, colour is spot on.

Another little update, got 40 minutes out in the garage again tonight

I cleaned the threads in the front hubs and then put the front suspension together loosely, looking good



I have also negotiated a deal with the machine shop at work, to machine up some replica tubes for the diff mount poly bushes. The ones from the supplier were ally and only about 2mm thick, really not up to the task as far as I am concerned. So tomorrow, for a pack of jaffa cakes, with will copy them in steel
