Hi Guys I`m not sure if they class as retro yet? But i`m starting to get a craving for a mazda 121/kia pride/ford festiva, Loads of guys in the states put 1.8 dohc or 1.6 dohc turbo mazda motors in there festivas (us version of the kia pride) I think i really need a 135bhp Kia pride, What do you reckon have i lost it completly?(all my mates just laugh) Cheers Adrian

it doesn't matter if it's a Morris Marina or a Toyota Celica - it's what you do with it that counts

I think fellow rr'er street started a thread about these some months ago, and the verdict was that they DEFINITELY need crazy power under the bonnet! I love the idea of keeping the OEM whitewall tyres!

that pic is nothing like any kia pride i've seen but my rather varied knowledge has deemed the very name kia to be a total disaster unless you decide to renew and replace every wearing item on the car.
*that is to say; the car*

That wagon is fappin' fantastic! Got a bit of a soft spot for these, I learnt to drive in one (officially; I could actually drive by 17 ). Most are built pretty well and they're a Mazda / Ford design so fairly reliable (yeah, I know, that didn't help the Ford Probe...... ;D). The 1.3i my driving instructor had was pretty nippy although the handling was best suited to driving along at 40mph in a straight line. I WISH I'd had a camera a couple of months ago when one drove past me in town..... standard metallic purple paint, all trim removed, slammed, on wide steelies, with a roof rack. YOWZER!

The most discontinued car ever - Ford and Mazda killed it off, then Kia killed the Pride off in `99, brought it back 6 months later, then killed it again 6 months after that. So far its died four times. Apart from that they`ve got nice engines and interiors but the 12 inch wheels don't do the handling any big flavours. They go well and are cheap and reliable, so they make great users but it would be nice to see one played about with a bit.

Ah, the Kia Shame. Theres a nice '86 or so 121 in our works car park. Interestingly enough the Pride 1.3i LX was the quickest car in its class when new, 0-60 in something like 9.6 or so. I don't think it would take much to make one quite fun for a thrashabout daily. Few years back me and a couple of guys at work saw a few go through the motor auctions for like £60 each and we said we aught to buy one each and have a race - budget of like £250 for performance "mods" and go thrash them up an airfield... Never happened though

I love the idea of keeping the OEM whitewall tyres! Aye I did indeed start a thread about these! It had some right gems in it, one with a 2.0 zetec on TB's and a lowrider style one! I'll try and have a look for it...

Hi I`ve got loads of piccies(no idea how to post them) The ford powered ones generally arent zetec but a mazda 1.8 dohc that ford fitted to some us specific models(hence the ford cam cover) Even 7 were produced with a ford 3.0litre v6 rear mounted with wide arches like the turbo 2 renault 5 Cheers Adrian

It is yeah. did the Kia's not have the big sunroof option then? i'm perversely fancying one of these little things, must stop that.

Yes they did, I used to work on both Kias and 121's when they were new and both were available with the full length roof. the Mazdas were a gazillon times better made than the Kias though. I think the kias used kitkat wrapper foil for the body panels ;D

They are pretty quickly forgotten and you don't see many, not 100% they are strictly 'retro' like.
