Love the GT86, had a go with one on GT5 for the first time the other day, bog standard they are damn fun to chuck arround - I know it's not real but it seemed to handle/go really well. Ford should take note of this RWD re-introduction....we could certainly do with a new Capri They already make a RWD saloon in Oz, the Falcon. If they brought it out here I would have one, had an XR6 hire car and loved it.

If Ford sold the Falcon XR6 Turbo in the UK - i'd be all over it like....well...i'm sure you can think of a suitable metaphor

I'd like one of those just to keep completely stock, I'd call it the GT85 Base and see if I could fit a less powerful engine of some description, probably the 2.0 out of a Carina E.
Ratdat is right though, it isn't a lightweight stripped out version which is surprising as most notable performance cars out of Japan since the 90s usually had something along those lines. Usually they end up with the interior from the most basic version with little/no soundproofing, no electric anything, no radio, no aircon, in some cases no protective underseal! The spec sheets for the Impreza RA, Lancer Evolution RS, Storia X4, etc. make for some pretty bleak (and extremely brief) reading.
I imagine something like that will come along later providing the car is as good on track as it makes out to be, though probably home market only.

I doubt an I4 would fit in there. It's a Subaru-sourced flat-4 in there. It's pretty tight in the bay with just that. May get away with fitting one from an Impreza though.

Just seen this on Pistonheads main page, IMO this is a great step for Toyota to do a stripped back version. Just needs coilovers and a welded diff........ heaven! The higher models all have LSD's so a sensible idea would be to have an LSD on the options list? That would be cracking. AFAIK the GT86 is getting a 'mechanical diff' upgrade in the options list.

Oh yeah, I keep forgetting about that. Well, in that case, I'll have the 1.5L and 4-speed autobox combo you could get on some Japanese-spec Imprezas. Detune it a bit obviously, see if I can get it down to a "manageable" 70hp or so. I wish I had some real money, I'd genuinely do this.

I hope that they don't do it in that oh so common white/black that every single AE86 seems to come in.

Did anyone else find it strange (if they've watched the video of them drifting about in that car park) to hear the commentator shouting Hachi-Roku and not seeing a Corolla?

Thread drag for some good news! The Subaru version (BRZ) willl come with a low cost stripped out option. www.pistonheads.com/news/default.asp?storyId=25251.htmSubaru say it promises to "be the perfect solution for those who wish to tune and fettle the BRZ to their own tastes, as well as track-day enthusiasts".

The old AE86 Corolla was obviously known as hachi-roku, so when you hear a commentator shouting that, you expect to see an AE86. But in fact you're now seeing a GT86. See?

DBiz to the rescue once again. Be interesting to see the two go head to head in D1SL...
