while the weather is cold and not good to paint in (which i need to do to my full size mini! ) i thought id have a go at making a 1/4 scale mini, i started with a bonnet.. then i made a bootlid.. and a door skin all 3... then i started to make up the floor... the floor now is 90% finished complete with crossmember, to show the scale ive put a 2 pint milk bottle next to it... i've been using 1.2mm steel plate to form the panels, when its finished it will have fully opening doors, boot and bonnet, and if i can manage to find a suitable size engine, i will make it remote control

that's pretty awesome!
Would be good with a two stroke motor like the larger RC cars! Pick up some speed too then!

23cc Zenoah engines are the preferred method of propulsion for the 1/4 and 1/5 scale stuff I beleive?
Great work, I'd love to be able to work metal like that!

i did it all freehand using a tape measure i got in a christmas cracker lol got the measurements in inches, and divided it by 4, then transfered it to steel plate, heres a few pics of how i did the bootlid to give you an idea of how ive done it i measure the bootlid, divided by 4 and marked up the shape on flat sheet steel.. then cut it out.. then marked up where the number plate recess is to go..

cheers for the positive comments! if all goes to plan it should look something like... I'm thinking of making the front end removeable, possibly fibreglass but retaining the steel bonnet, as the wings and front panel will be a nightmare to form from 1.2mm steel.. but ill have a go 1st to see if i can go all steel, if not ill go fibreglass

Failing that - could make the wings from lead? Just to say you've made ALL the panels from metal

You're like a crazy backyard genius!

i suppose lead would work, would be easy to shape! and repair if it became mobile and crashed lol but i think steel 1st, if that fails, fibreglass, also means ill have access to the engine/front suspension etc should i need to adjust anything quickly, and it will be a good way to hide the pull start, abit like when you have a scale nitro car, you start the engine in the chassis, and then drop the body on top! i have a driver too in the form of an old 70s action man, just hope he's tall enough to reach the pedals
