So, taking your AE86 as an example, what sort of money do you need to spend for all equipment and peripherals etc? Are they pretty robust or easily broken...?

So, taking your AE86 as an example, what sort of money do you need to spend for all equipment and peripherals etc? Are they pretty robust or easily broken...? I got mine about ten years ago, it was originally a Tamiya r34 skyline gtr. All I've done is put drift tyres on it, a silly camber kit and a new body. It's great fun. I reckon I've spent £200 all in over the years what with paint and wheel whoring etc. but if you get a second hand 4wd tamiya TL-01 off ebay you could build something really nice for less than a ton with spare wheels. There are loads of them out there sitting in kids' cupboards that parents stick on ebay for cheap To get one of the new, built for drifting kits you can spend silly money. These days they're all carbon fibre and parts are extortionate - they do break if you drive them hard, but if you get an old tamiya like mine you can get parts for next to nothing and they are pretty strong to begin with. Google rc drift videos, I don't want to clutter this thread with them but it's a whole scaled down world of dariftoo madness and is getting massive, I only use mine once every 6 months in a car park and it costs me nothing, but in Japan and the US people take it very seriously.

I use to run a tamiya tl-01, fully hopped up, cabon drive shafts carbon prop shaft, 13 triple turn motor, ball raced, its was silly quick for a battery rc car, excellent at drifiting, i had a bora drift shell and scooby shell, sadly it was stolen and never replaced, but with everything including eh electronic speed controller (with abs braking function) cost me teh best part of £450, i will re-place it soon, i also use to have a mardave v12 car with a mk1 escort van shell and black millilites that was cool and had a fixed rear axle so driving it in a straight line was hard, could easily destroy the rear tyres in one sitting, don't think i have any pics of them but will have a look

There are loads of retro car bodies available for the Mardave 1/12 oval race car kits from Kamtec, www.kamtec.co.uk. They do a fair bit of 1/10 as well. And check out some of the stuff you can get in 1/10 from ABC Hobby (there are other suppliers as well) in Japan!

I'll let this live in here for a bit,.. but it'll go to Readers Other Mods eventually. I always wanted to do some R/C stuff at The Gathering on the Saturday. The nice flat paddock at Prescott could be good for it

Hmm. Now I want the 2002, the mkI Escort, the mkI Golf, the AE86 and the 510. This could get expensive.

I may have mentioned it before, but I've a few retro RCs. After seeing this on Twitter earlier, I started looking for pics of my collection. The original : The Muck Warrior: Two motors, Four Wheel drive. Quite a handful! I'm still working on this one, next job is to cut the rear an mount an engine guard, and exhaust: Since this pic I've added a pair of dummy spotlamps on the bonnet, and trimmed the arches so the wheels don't fould the arches. Looking on modelsport, you'd pick up a radio/receiver/servo combo for £50, and a batter and charger for as little as £20.

I've got that Merc Cossie body at home, I never got around to doing anything with it. I've also got those 4 spoke Revolution wheels, or at least, the red aluminium versions that Tamiya made. Found 'em in a hobby shop in Nice on our honeymoon 5 years ago.

The adjustability on that BMW to fit other bodies is simply wicked. It's the one thing that used to let the 1/10 cars down when I was a kid and I used to have to make a selection of chassis for my Ministock to fit my Mini, Beetle and A Team van bodies
