I have to say it, sorry.. That's what an oscilloscope is forYes I have a Fluke 123 but its also handy to have a multimeter that doesnt take an age to get to the correct resistance ect Why the dig Wasn't a dig - it's something of a running joke I didn't notice last night that you are new here... soz.

To get a standard A40 this low, you'd have to dig a hole to put it in

Why the dig Scary has been fighting a long running battle as to why and how a scope is useful for diagnosing all sorts of weird and wonderful faults on cars

Just to put a pennies worth in, i use the Uni-T, found it does everything you would need it to, and a lot less money than the fluke, point taken about calibrating, but thats not what we doing with it. A very cheap meter will cause more confusion than give answers, i'm just buying a second Uni-T with DC amps, very reasonable on ebay, worth a look. Andy

FWIW,
I've got a Fluke 77, must be 20 odd years old excellent. I'd recommend getting a good selection of leads/connectors, the Fluke has interchangeable ends.
Although sometimes it's nice to have am analogue meter (got an old Triplett for that, uses very odd batteries though).

Wish I could afford all those flashy things... Mine cost £5 from CPC.farnell.com. Accuracy is not very important but it is pretty darn good anyway. Best of all it's only just larger than a pack of fags and has integral probe stowage. It does everything I'd want it to and it's almost cheaper to buy another than change the batteries (Batteries included!) cpc.farnell.com/_/in04877/compact-dmm-multimeter-digital/dp/IN04877Most jobs all you need is continuity and 0-20V, sometimes you need resistance and current. Anything else is pretty much wasted on basic car wiring jobs.
