Its good that you are getting stuck into it mate, we have one or two ax owners club members up your way that could prolly lend a hand if you ever need it. I've got a boot spoiler here in blue if you ever want one, drop me a pm for a price, and I've always loads of spares in too, my current ax is a 5 door Vts conversion

Well, it looks like the wee beastie lives to chug along for a few more miles yet Thanks in no particular order to Muthawhat, Ruffgeezer, ax16vts, and general Ebay scavenging we have... Spot the original lock mixed in with the shiney new ones It's only after I fitted the new lockest I realised not all AX's have a different key for the filler cap, gritty doorlocks (how on earth do you get sand inside a doorlock??), some even have a nice oiled movement and are spring loaded so they return to center when you lock or unlock the door. Posh or what Not sure what I did wrong when I was fitting them but both doorlocks are now vertical, the old drivers lock was vertical but the passenger one was horizontal - typical French quirk I guess (or possibly some muppet in the past changed the doorlocks and got confused which way was up ) Difficult to explain why but the new drivers door lock has probably been the biggest improvement so far - it just feels nice when you unlock the door ;D The original front seat was destroyed before we bought the car - it's one of the few faults I knew about at the time - but at least it got no worse We recently scored for a full Saxo interior with belts for a pub-change bid ( everything else on this car has been done on a tight budget - why stop now ) www.ebay.co.uk/itm/320966546258?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2649The passenger seat is being left out for a few days (watch this space for updates ), hoping to try the rear seats before the weekend. If the rears and doorcars don't fit they will be up for grabs - anyone interested? Fronts are also here if anyone wants a set of frames to recover There's one more bit of the puzzle to collect but that should be fitted on Wednesday just in time for a quick (or not so quick ) tat distibution tour starting in Northumberland and hitting the Yorkshire coast, Birmingham, Essex, and Reading

We're back in the game with an up and running classic ;D Details of the latest trip are retrorides.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=general&action=display&thread=135939Many thanks to the folk who helped out - we were very close to scrapping it if we couldn't find the bits we needed at affordable prices There's still a spare pair of AX front steats if anyone wants some frames to recover - PM quick as we may be loosing our storage edit to fix broken link

You know the problems over the last couple of weeks trying to find a glass window to replace our customised table-top Guess what turned up locally - with a comment of get it quick or it goes to the tip The problem is do we want the one with AXOC stickers or the one that's close to the right colour ? And the goodies also included a go-faster spoiler ;D (every little helps - and this beastie needs a LOT of help )

And also spent a little while fitting the assorted belts which turned up with the interior Posh or what ;D Top tip : Fronts have loop fittings at the end of the belt and are interchangable. Rears (with bolt-through mount at end of belt) are handed and mount at an angle, fit them on the wrong side and they lock and won't let the belt out It also means I have a spare pair of tidy black inertia belts - which may come in handy

Todays tutorial from Bodgitt & Scarper : 101 things (nearly) that you need to know to rebuild an AX bootlock for a new key The new lockset set we got was great but the boot lock was missing. Easy solution - find a lock that your key wont open and fix it so it will ;D First, remove the circlip and end plate (your choice - you can make a note of how it all lines up before you take it apart but then you miss out on the fun of working out how to put it back together ) Pull the barrel (central core ) out, and see how it looks when you put your key in If any of the sliders are flush, leave them where they are Remove any others by poking them out with a screwdriver This gives you a DIY lock rebuild kit - time for some fun ;D Note the outside of each slider is the same but the holes are closer to the end on some than on the others You can just see the tiny springs that keep everything where it belongs, be careful not to loose any or damage them Personal choice but I start at the end nearest the pliers in the photo above, try each slider in the end position - try the key - great if it lines up flush - if not take it out and try a different slider. Just work along and try the spare sliders in the slots you've not filled yet... The best I could get was 4 flush and 1 slightly not - just filed the high point to make it flush Clag it all back together and jobs a good'un Even easier if you have a couple of locks to strip so you mix-and-match plates This only works on boot locks, the doors and ignition are non-DIY fiaxble Today the AX is offically a "1 key fits all locks" motor (for the first time since we got it )

Nothing to report fo a while but the fun continues - and this little beastie is still clocking up the miles and doing it's best to make life interesting If anyone has a spare "retaining plate" (& spring clip) to hold the pads in the front brake calipers or knows where I can get one would you let me know I know it looks like a small piece of super-low-tech angle-iron that would be almost impossible to destroy, but don't forget about the interesting service history this car has had Yep, the one fitted has had the end (with a rather useful hole for a locating clip to fit) mangled, the plate has then been carefully fitted - and BENT aound the caliper to hold it in place The car is a 1.5D if that makes any difference to the fitting... many thanks

Well, just a quickie (we do like quickies ) to say the little beasite is still chugging along ;D Recently helped with a couple of shiny new (and working ) glowplugs to replace the dead ones Final score was 2 dead, 1 ok, 1 not checked yet ... so it's been starting in the snow with (at best) 2 working glowplugs. No wonder it was complaining Celebrated by fitting a couple of new (ok - well ragged ) M&S tyres we got from an ex-rallycross racer. Genuine pedigree with wear patter to proove it First time I've fitted winter tyres - I'm hooked ;D Spent Saturday afternoon fitting them and most of Sunday looking for big snow covered hills to play on ;D ;D ;D

beware, they will be useless on anything but fresh snow as they are way too hard, bloody scary on tarmac!
there is no substitute for proper winter tyres I'm afraid!

Thanks for the info, very impressed so far but it's good to know what to expect for the future. Spent a good while driving around Wales in winter a couple of years ago, very happy to listen to anyone who can cope with those conditions in winter cheers

A couple of quick updates - the snow has nearly (but not) all gone here "Up North" ... I'm starting to come out of hibernation ... and the wee beastie just keeps going ;D beware, they will be useless on anything but fresh snow as they are way too hard, bloody scary on tarmac! there is no substitute for proper winter tyres I'm afraid! Have left the M&S tyres on and found they *really* suit driving up here ;D We have cold/wet/snow/slush/salted(slippy) conditions for a good part of the year - often a mix of all together These on the front grip so well on the cold damp roads we have now, the backend wants to slide on corners Is this the first drifty AX In other news, have just fitted the 2nd "new" wing (needed 1 to replace the rusty nearside - but found a pair VGC & cheap a while ago ;D) While the wing was off found out why the front bumper has never lined up properly of felt 100% secure Quick quiz! If you were bodging together a write-off repairing a minor front-end bump on an AX (made from super-thin tin & notorious for bending if you gve them a hard stare), once you had got your el-cheapo front bumper from the scrapyard and painted it (without keying the paint - obviously) would you : - put the car on a jig to check it's still straight then decide if it's worth repairing - remove the smashed bits. bend the tin back into the right kind of shape, refit new bumper & jobs done - remove the smashed bits that are obvious, leave the bent tin mounting brackets and bumper locating horns as they are, fit any bolts that lined up and use cable-ties on the rest. - Do the best you could in the hour before going to the pub and finish it off in the dark when you got back Answers next week (if I can find out) but I know the repair involved cable ties & supect it involved lots of drink Pics to follow (when I find my camera cables )

those grills are quite rare, seldom come up these days
As for the accident damage the spot welds holding the bumper mounting brackets on the front panel are weak and flimsy so fall off without too much effort. As does anything else at the front of an Ax lol
And if you think how weak the front end is, consider this, I went out in a 350bhp Ax Turbo the other week......scary doesn't do it justice!

If you can find one it would be appreciated Errm ... all I know for sure is it's not anything like the the one in the pic - so I guess it's not Bosch www.eastment.net/Boschpump3.htm

don't think its that pump either way. i would have thought that it would be the same as the 106 pump as its the same engine. in the pic the bosch one is the top one, the lucas is the bottom. i don't know if the bosch were ever fitted to the ax though...
