Here is my 1982 renault 5 gordini turbo, currently undergoing a baremetal respray as we speak and hope to have it back next month, been in bodyshop since french car show in june! .to start with it was like this; looks okay in pics but had rust coming through on rear arch and major microblistering on bonnet and a hand painted boot lid, so I decided to get it restored properly as not many left on the road anyway the bloke is doing a proper job and if you don't believe me then here is the proof!! back to bare metal including the removal of the underseal from the sills so that a better, smoother one can be fitted, a job that took 4 hours on its own!! the rear arch was shot so that been fully done now this was a brief idea I had of polishing up the car in bare metal and laquering like a delorean almost ready for paint then need to get the stickers made up, stainless exhaust sorted, 2 wheel bearings, anti roll bar bushes and front shocks to be fitted as they looking a bit sorry for them selves then wil be able to go to a few shows and enjoy it for the summer

That is beautiful mate! I remember being offered one about 18 years ago when I was 19. It was only £500 but a bit rough and I wasn't particularly flush back then. I really regretted not buying it afterwards. Seeing your car brings back good memories. Good luck with the build, really looks great!

I had an identical Gordini turbo to this that I robbed the engine from for my Gordini Alpine - the European LHD version. I had a Group A carb, bigger turbo and intercooler, along with a hot camshaft. Made about 190 brake iirc but used to torque steer like a motherhubbard! Almost impossible to keep in a straight line but great fun. Good memories! Clutch went and the Mr Clutch centre I took it to forgot to replace the spigot bush. The new clutch lasted 3 miles! Idiots had to do the job all over again. My cue to get rid. Very cool car now and uber rare fella. lovely.

Nice! Was looking after a 5 Gordini Turbo, and was about to buy one, but at the end it was just a non-turbo, so didn't.
Really good to see that this is getting some attention it deserves. Waiting for new pics after respray, and some the interior also.

I must add on this note I am only 24 so the car is older then me:) has done 81,000 miles drives well boosts well, does need a good set up on the rollers which will get done after the paint job.
Interior wise it does need a good valet and I have manage to purchase a Retro original tape deck. It does however suffer from the annoying sagging roof lining which I will have to sort aswell as baggy seats, although not bad for age tbh and I think I am only the 5th owner with the 3rd actually living near me before selling it to a bloke in London where I purchased it from in may.
If anybody is going auto jumbles I do require a standard air filter for it, passenger side seat belt, and a few other nuts and bolts.
If anyone can help with parts or with ideas of fixing saggy roof lining and baggy seats please let me know, oh and the non Turbo gordinis are extremely rare, although think there is only 17 of these taxed and tested on the roads today, future classic. I think:)

Both mine had SRLS (saggy roof lining syndrome) and that was 20 years less worth of gravity to deal with! There was no easy fix then but best thing is just get a trimmer to deal with it. I am just having a BMW e21 done and all in, it's £300. Well worth it given all your graft so far. You can turn the boost up a bit on these but don't get carried away. A group A head gasket is a good move too. You've got me thinking about having another one of these now! Mind you, being so rare, I can't see it happening. You're right about the non-turbo cars being sought after too. Plus they're still good fun to drive. Even the TS, which is the one make series race car basis, is fun to throw around. I quite fancy an early 5 with a Clio 16v lump fitted. Good luck searching for the parts. I think that's part of the fun.

Awesome car (well of course, it's French) !! They are rare even here, in the UK I can imagine it's worse. Good luck with the build, aren't parts too scarce?

shame about the silver gordini but did look to far gone and judging by the dent on the roof gutter looked like it had been hi-abd once in its life

Damn, I wondered why the body shop man kept saying mine is immaculate for age as there is only welding needed on the arch, tiny patch of the sill, bottom of the boot and a bit inside the inner arch, but that's nothing compared to how much work was needed on that silver one:/
Parts are an issue managed to get some from Germany, Belgium and France but all the regular parts like fan belts brake pads spark plugs etc are still supplied from any parts shop which is good,
I only took car to bare metal as that way I know it was fixed and there won't be any scares later down the line of ownership where I will have to damage the new paint.
On one side of the car we removed 8 layers of paint and went down 2 layers from the top and found the original stripes underneath!
Once the paint is done it will be getting waxoyled in every nook, crany and cravis under the car and in doors etc to prevent further rust from occurring in the future.
Looking forward to showing it at a few shows this year to both old and young may even risk taken it to bug jam as I'm sit's it would get appreciated:)
