managed to find some time last night to (almost) finish off the drivers side brake overhaul. Bolted up the lower damper mount, swapped out the thje new brake disc and bolted on the new caliper. Had to jig about with the flexi hose routing just the other side to do now Matt

Hi two questions; Whats the VIN? My B GT was made 5-6th of January and was also Grampian Grey and I have somehow ended up collecting pics of 67 BGTs sorted by their VINs - sad I know PM if you prefer. Why not sell overseas as long as you take necessary precautions? Most classic car here in Norway are imported

All went well eventually but a stressful experience

Hi, 1 question about your B :
- minor cosmetic rust blebs : where ? Do you have pictures of them ?

its got these blebs coming through where the 2 front wing halves meet. from inside its perfect suggesting that then the new wing panels were fitted and resprayed the paint didn't get in the seam enough. It needs the chrome trim popping and the blebs treating if you read this thread, you'll see that i've been more focussed on doing the running gear and mechnical bits (backed up with over £800 worth of receipts since january), rather than cosmetics. Thats because : a) the car is used very week on dry days so needs to be reliable ( 50+ mile commute to work once a week ) b) the car is garaged and used most of the time on dry days only. Matt

New powerspark/simonbbc 25D dizzy with electronic ignition and gold lucas coil fitted last night. The old dizzy appears to be the original from 1967. Certainly some play in the shaft and the wiring under the cap looking past its best. timed in and fired up lovely, perfect idle. i'll post some pics tomorrow as i forgot to bring my camera to work

As you can see, the dissy tucked in close to the filter and under the heater tap so not greatly accessible...but do-able with the cap and leads out the way, its not to bad. Two 7/16" bolts and the dizzy can be pulled free i think it might the the original...certainly play in the shaft ...and dodgy looking wiring Genuine Lucas arm.... New 25D dizzy plus electronic ignition that ditches the condensor and points New coil fitted and the new loom for the electronic ignition hooked up Matt

I would keep the old rotor arm just incase. I know that I (and a few others) have had issues with pattern arms that seem to be the only things available now (bar the Distributor Doctor items (at a price)). They respond well to a good distributor eh? .

its using a "red" rotor arm from powerspark. same rotor arm as the distributor doctor ones. last night I managed to get into the grage of a couple of hours - one pressing job and one service item. last week i'd noticed a weep of oil from under the oil cooler so I assumed the original oil cooler had developed a minor split that was opening up when the oil was up to temp. I monitored it but picked up a new cooler from David Manner. £25 seemed a reasonable price..... old one out.... new one in.... also fitted the new mg-rover air filters, as I wasn't sure when the current ones had been fitted. carb pans off.... carbs looking very clean, backing up that they were newly fitted in 2003 old filters had been on for a couple of years back together....

went through its MOT last week, has now just rolled over 128k miles. gave the diff oil a check and needed just a table spoon of hypoid to top it up. shame to sell it really but need the space for the covin build.

Having decided that the red wires were too racy for the majority of MGB owners, i've started painting the wires black. I was going too do them body colour but i had a pile of matt and gloss black rattle cans. as my car tinkering time is usually only late evenings, its not an option to fire up the compressor either. i can get one wheel done in an evening by doing a wash, degrease, further wash and scrub with a scotch pad and traffic film remover, drying then laying on paint. first coat of matt paint wheel bolted back on after 2 coats of gloss i also slapped on some waxoyl whilst the wheel was off the wheels were already off the MG as i've replaced the front crossmember retaining bolt bushes - there are 4 bolts and 8 pads. the rubbers was fairly squished but not fully collapsed. now with new poly bushes

Ah that's a shame as I liked the red wheels but I suppose you gotta do whatever you can to get it sold (if that is still the aim?)

having asking around, the red wheels is the thing that seems to be putting most traditional MGB owners off.....a proper marmite situation because loads of people also like the red....but i really need to release the cash from this MG to plough into the Peetle Borker project
