why do wipers always pack up when its raining....... motor is hot and stopped working. either motor has burnt out or the gear mech has jammed up. Oh well, at least it waited till after the MoT. Trip to halfords at lunch time for some own brand rainex............. If the mechanism has jammed make sure its not still trying to park the wipers! Would be best to unplug the wires from it.

It's got a battery cut-off thingy so its safe at the moment. I'll go back at lunchtime and unplug the motor for the journey home. Cheers Seth.

time to get something with a bigger back seat (kids). when i bought it, i knew I'd only have this summer to enjoy it as we had a baby in january. I've never had a MGB before and this was my only chance to have one before the kids got too big.
When i lived at home years ago i used to service our neighbours B roadster after its winter hibernation, so have fancied getting one. wanted to buy one as my first car but were too expensive to insure, so ended up getting a mini.

I see. My MGB GT is becoming a strict 2 seater as there will be no rear seats in it, but then I've got two dailies in addition. Wouldn't the sensible choice for you then be a Rover P6B

Would love a Rover P5 or P6 but both are a tad too big for my garage. limited to about 4.5m long by 1.6m wide with room to get in/out. considering an alfa giulia 1300, possibly a beetle or a type 3, or a clean triumph 2000mk1

Buy the Stag . 4 Seats, check, will it fit? Check (similar size to the 2000). The only real issues are the thirst (18-25MPG) and the fact that some spares are quite pricey. I shall keep a lookout for a MkI 2000 if you wish. What if it a MkI 2.5 PI cropped up (just saying...)?

LOL....i've never really been comfortable with the stag/mk2 2500 styling, hence why I prefer the mk1 2000. mk1 PI's in decent order will probably be over my budget, based on what i've seen so far. Really tidy Mk1's go for very reasonable money. or a mk1 cortina because of engine transplant options....... Tappets redone (.38mm), new gasket and alloy rocker now fitted and has now done 126k miles. new goldseal engine was fitted at 116k. very healthy. Does my 52 mile round trip commute to work no problem (dry days only) last of the summer:

I had a feeling that was the reason . When I adjusted the tappets on mine, it did make quite a difference to the running.

its a shame because my dad used to be pattern-maker back in the late 60's and made some of the interior trim parts for the stag - door handles, chrome trim strips etc.
most of the tappets were fine, just needed closing up slighly. one was out a fair bit which was the noticeable 'clack' i was hearing over the normal tappet noise

the market is ripe with MGB's at the moment so we'll have to see Found this shot taken when its in for the MoT in July. You can just make out the new clutch slave cylinder with the brake flexi hose, and new front springs and a shot of the new 15" motolita with original style hose push (not cheap!)

oil and filter change last night:- clean under the filler cap drain out the old oil new filter screwed on also, i've refitted the pedal box cover that i had wrinkle powder coated and also, i noticed that a replacement regulator box had been fitted at some point in it past. probably in the 80's by the look of the sticker Matt

I managed to find some time this week to start doing the front suspension conversion along with the new brakes. to fit the GAZ dampers , the kit comes with a longer braided brake hose to clear the damper, so the hydraulics need to be split. makes sense (in this case) to do a full brake overhaul at the same time as i suspect it was all fitted back in 1990 when the car was stripped back to the shell and resprayed. i got the old caliper off and disconnected the brake line then unbolted the lever arm damper, so to flip it forward to a)remove the valve and b) fit the upper damper mount underneath the lever arm damper This is as far as i got last night as i need to buy a 1 1/8" deep socket to get the hub nut off. I got a 30mm deep socket yesterday and found the hub nut very easy to remove as it only requires about 40lbs of torque. i fitted the upper damper mount and refitted the lever arm using new longer bolts and gave the clip a clean up. Tonight i'll clean up the wire wheel spline and bolt on a new disc. Not before fitting a new dust shield. These came in a satin matt finish but i've given them a blow over with some gloss black I've also degreased the new calipers and given them a coat of rattle can clear lacquer to help keep the shiny passivate finish Matt
