Beautiful work Tony, as always! What do you make of the Gravitex stonechip? I've been looking at the kits on the 'bay that come with a gun as I want to replicate the textured factory finish on my sills. Thanks James

James It's the closest I've been able to get to the look of the original, but I do hope to get one of those spray able seam sealer guns soon and see if that's any better

Tony,
You said before that you use 20swg on body and 16swg chassis. Just to clarify does that mean you are using 16swg on the floor repairs?
Thanks

Kudos to you and Brian, looks like this will be a minter when she's finished! Thanks for replying to my email, hopefully we'll be able to get an E12 M535 sorted at some point!

I've just read this thread for the first time, right through, marvellous work, I will be following progress for sure.
Edit to add -
I was interested to note the sunroof drains, I'm working on a Vauxhall Carlton at the minute and was surprised to find its sunroof drains exit into the sills too and coincidentally I went for much the same solution of taking them out into the wheel well. Its a mystery to me why so many car designers did that, it seems completely bonkers.
I was also interested to see you using some Bilt Hamber products, I'm using several of them myself and rate them quite highly, I'm using Deox gel, Hydrate 80 converter and Electrox zinc primer, good stuff.

I think the reason they put the sunroof drains into the sills is that the manufacturer didn't plan for these cars to stay alive for 30+ years Since 1991, I have BMW E12 520 European model with 4cyl M10, manual, which I am trying to restore now. Seeing the quality of work Tony does, I am amazed and at the same time worried. Worried because now I know this level of work can be done and the welder/painter who is working on my car will not be doing the job to the Tony's standards. By the way, may be I can invite Tony to Baku, Azerbaijan to do a brilliant work?

same deal on mk2 astras, sunroof into sills. there is a "bus stop" kink in the sill and wing to let it out just below. but that gets mucky and exasperates the issue

The front window draintubes of a fiat 500 and fiat 126 , end in the frontwings at the lower part of the ( structual) a-post , were the bottomhinges are and from the factory there is no hole in the bottom of the fender... :-) my biggest catch was 4 liters of water....

Sunroof drains - always start at the top! The link below takes you to some photos of a 635 donor car in my possession that underwent a comprehensive rebuild 15-20 years ago but had since degraded rust-wise to the point it was no longer economical for me to restore. The moral of the story in some ways is that the drains may appear to be working but in actual fact could well be "diverting" a considerable portion of the water to the inside of your car! retrorides.proboards.com/post/2057141/thread
