Well, i've changed the title of my thread, seams as of april, vosa are going to be either thinking of installing pit lane cctv, or actually implementing it . so soon the days of your frienly tester are soon going to be well and truely gone. Also I heard tale of an isle of man incident, where a ""young motorist"" got a little chopsy with an officer of the law, 9 days later he got a letter from vosa asking for his mot certificate, which he ignored, then got a letter from swintons saying they had revoked his insurance untill such a time he could provide a certificate of road worthness. so when it comes time for mot testers to really tow the line. and you've got that modified bulkhead to fit your pinto in your mk1, are you going to attempt to get a BIVA , track it, or scrap it?

I'm really starting to to loose the will with this country :/ are they trying to drive us all out or do they want a full on revolt?
I'm going to live in north Korea, it's more of a free country than the UK.

Someone claims a spurious fact without any evidence to back the claim up and people jump on the bandwagon and immediately get irrate, without facts, evidence and the paperwork from parliament saying this has been passesd I couldnt give a shiny wibblepoo! No offence to the OP but it sounds a bit like a "mate of a mate who goes to the pub and walks his dog once in a while told him" sort of story, I could well be wrong and I will eat my porkpie hat BUT until then I call it panic raising, scare-mongering, conjecture and nonsense! |

So what if they do? I don't give a flying wibblepoo either way as when my cars tested i want it tested by the book.If your car deserves to pass it`ll pass rather than having a shonky test done by a `mate`.
And as far as i know the mot tester hasnt a requirment to flag up any mods as long as its safe. So why would you be hauled up for a biva test?
So far ive only heared of a handful of people who have being hauled up for a biva test,i`ll carry on as normal until/IF i get caught then worry about it.Most of it is just internet scare-mongering anyway.Can you imagine what would happen if they called every modified car up for an inspection? Be chaos.

It sounds like the usual scare-mongering to me.
In any case, if you've nothing to hide, what's the problem?
It amazes me how the whole MoT system is arranged in the UK mainland.
In Northern Ireland, our MoTs are carried out by the DVA, in fully equipped stations I imagine to be more like HGV testing stations on the mainland.
They're interested when something a bit different comes through for its test, but it still gets a good going over in the inspection.
I read about modifications in other threads that "It'll be OK, I've a mate who's an MoT tester", which is unfair on everyone else who plays by the rules.
I'm going off at a tangent from the OP, but a transparent system that examines all cars equally means unsafe cars are kept off the road. Is that not a good thing for our hobby?

no matter what rules are brought in this will never be stopped.

I find all these things very bemusing... why doesnt everyone just drive legal cars? I've got 3 retros on the road atm... all modified, one heavily, but all legal...
Two were built when I was a student so it's not even as though it's costly...

For me the main issue with MOT testers is inconstancy, one will pass with advisory things and another will fail. Anything that gives me confidence in the system is good.
