Ok, let's see how far this gets. Please for the love of GOD read the rules first, I know everyone is guilty of missing the point of topics (even me ;D) Ok, so I want you all to think of the decades of Retrodom 50s,60s,70s,80s,90s. And I want you to post a picture of the first car that pops in your head. Not what you think SHOULD be the car of that decade, just what first pops in your head. Also bear in mind that the car may not have been manufactured in that decade, just that there were a lot of them around at the time. Ok! So I'll go first (Feel free to do 20s,30s,40s if you like). It'll be interesting to see how many are repeated. 50s 60s 70s 80s 90s

50's Chevy bel air 60's Morris Mini Minor 70's Ford Capri mk1/2 80's Datsun Micra (my Grandad had a silver auto til it rotted away and a family friend had one in that ^ colour!) 90'smy dad drove a D reg 2.0 Granada in the 90's (D227RTW long dead)and before that had a Renault 21 company car (F390FKK dead) These are all things I associate with cars from that decade as they were what I was carried around in, being an 80's child and all that.

50's - Ford Pop (especially since seeing Ants and Ryans a number of time recently) 60's - Jag E-Type. The epitome of that era when thinking of anything cool... 70's - Morris Marina. My parents had one, it sums up my first experiences of motoring as a child more than anything else 80's - Ford Escort Mk3 (Esp. XR3i and RS1600i) So 80's, so cool and (at the time) one on every street in the UK. 90's - Mazda MX5/Eunos/Miata Mk1. More than any other car, this brought back retro motoring with a modern twist, fun motoring and reliability. Forget the Mini, Beetle and Fiat 500 - the MX5 captured the spirit of the past through passion, not cliche and tacky charicature with a ton of marketing to appeal to the 'trendies' who can't think for themselves. ...and yes Mark, they are the first cars that came to mind for each respective decade.

This is easier if you don't look at other postings first so I had to try and clear my mind... 50s - first came into my mind as a sober, slow and heavy looking grey-coloured shape. Rover P4 then. 60s 70s 80s - (and in my mind it even had this background?!) 90s - the era of blobby design

10s - Elegant, expensive, not too safe. Rolls Royce Silver Ghost 20s - So much money and glamour Bugatti Type 41 Royale 30s - Fun but basic. Austin 7 Chummy 40s - Elegant & restrained. Austin A90 Atlantic 50s - Flash, bang, glitz and Americana '58 Cadillac Fleetwood Sixty Special 60s - Like the 50s, but smaller and a bit more mad. Vauxhall PA Cresta 70s - Futuristic wedges made of plastic. Lotus Elite (I think we all know MM is responsible for this, it's the only 70s thing coming to mind right now!) 80s - TV cop dramas and masculine car design. Ford Capri 90s - Efficiency of design malaise. Ford Sierra

^ I like to think that the rep in that Sierra is, rather than just pulling away, driting wildly down the high street. Sadly, lack of spinny wheels and smoke makes me think otherwise.

Sadly I have no pictures to share but here is my list.
'20s: Studebaker Big 6. Grandfather had one. Dad reckoned it would pull smoothly from 5mph in top gear. I never saw it complete but parts of it are still around. '30s: Morris 8. Grandfather had one before the Stude and a woman friend in the '80s had one also. Was a fun weekend cruising car. Felt fast even though it wasn't. Especially the day she shot a single lane bridge at 60mph and made a Rover P6B back down. '40s: Not sure, probably American Ford V8. '50s: Standard Vanguard. Grandfather had a Phase 2 when they were new and I bought a Phase 1 in the '80s. '60s: Mk3 Zodiac. Grandfather had one. Wish he'd kept it because then I'd probably have it now. '70s: Austin Allegro. Had my first driving lesson in a 1500LE Automatic. '80s: Ford Falcon 4.1 litre Crossflow six. '90s: Ford Falcon 3.9 and 4.0 litre OHC six.
