The rear of this rabbit has an interesting air setup that I can't find a photo of at the moment.... But here's a photo of it raised slightly. That is interesting. The rear suspension on a Golf is a twist beam with trailing arms isn't it, so as standard camber would remain the same throughout the suspension travel. But it certainly looks reduced in that photo, so there must be something else very interesting going on there? I'd like to see more photos if you can find them. If it is on air, then I don't see why it would be inherently dangerous I'm willing to bet that he doesn't normally drive it at that ride height. But of course it's much easier to assume straight away that he does without really knowing anything about the car... And: shouldnt be called camber when its not for handling and purely for a stupid scene look in my opinion Camber by definition is the angle the wheel's centre line makes with the ground when seen from straight on. What else exactly would you call it? I'd go for "lots of camber"... ...Anyway. Positivity. Here's a picture of it with a Euro front end: Nick Middletons bagged rabbit by JLOgraphy, on Flickr EDIT: From the comments here: "He built a custom independent rear suspension. It's also on airride, so he can lower it at will. The camber is from the design of the IRS in back."

1989 Peugeot 205. You know, the one that was parked in a ditch on the campsite at RRG'17... the glass is always full. but the ratio of air to water may vary.

I was about to suggest maybe he removed a few washers to reduce the camber.......not for me but power to him for the work put-in. Wonder what the IRS is based-upon/pinched from ?

excellent. why build custom IRS with more swing in the rear wishbones than the front ? if there is some kind of benefit to the extra swing at the back; what is it? I've explained before tucking the wheel up into the wheel arch on a car that has really round bubble arches never works and is something that causes me great unease I feel to immitate the broken air-cooled look I say he needs to chop the wheel arches off as per this photoshop Or alternately sit some nice wide wheels with lots of rubber BELOW those bubbly arches instead to give a good purposful look.

Does anyone know for certain that it has a custom built air sprung rear end? If it is a swing axle set up, then the pivot point must be very low. Wishbones would need some pretty radical geometry to give the range of camber shown in the various pics. The rear spindles on a Golf bolt onto the ends of the trailing arms, the easiest way to get extreme camber is to unbolt the spindle and refit it with spacers of some sort on the lower bolts. Certainly not something I would consider doing.

I can confirm it is a bespoke swingaxle type set up.will try find a pic sometime. It's even gotta engine driven pump for the airride. The front would be lower but he can't get the tyres he needs over there.

He looks like he should still be playing with Lego so for him to build a custom IRS is very impressive. As I said before it definitley has an aircooled vibe going on, which is probably why the front doesn't have any camber gain.

That car was built by a member of VWvortex with the user name Patatron. It is indeed a custom swingaxle airbag setup. He was trying to emulate the look of a slammed bug. No other reason for it, he just wanted it to look cool. Found a pic of the rear suspension Pat was a cool but very opinionated guy who got into a fair bit of trouble with a failed business and dissapeared from the internet after he sold this car to try and get some cash together to make his many wrongs right.

I think Dbiz once said; Complaining a car on air suspension is too low is like complaining your dinner is too hot and then throwing it away. Or something. *cough* Complaining that a car on adjustable suspension is too low is akin to throwing away your dinner because it's too hot.

I guess sometimes your dinner is a salad. Ha! I like that. The comment that is, not salad, I'm not a rabbit. VIP (Or square I square as it appears on my screen) cheers for putting that right. I think the US front does suit it much better, somehow.

Looks to me like a very primitive (quite extreme angle) semi-trailing arm set-up relying on the compression of rubber bush's to give any movement. Definitely not very well designed, will give rather a lot of toe as well as camber, and as he's made the bush's unstressed at full droop not ride height, the bush's will last about as long as an x-factor winners career, not to mention the pointless lack of bracing between the 2 inner mounting points. However, having said all that, I really don't particularly care , as he clearly isn't bothered about handling, and I doubt the car sees enough miles, or hard enough driving to worry about the bush's wear rate. The car looks very cool, and if you're going to have a cambered car, then I'll give a big 'hell yes please' to the idea of having zero camber at driving ride height, and double-take amounts at 'show' ride height . I'll also admire the fact that he had the balls and ingenuity to redesign the cars rear suspension to make it what he wanted, rather than just bolting on some coilovers/bags, even if he didn't do the best job, it looks safe enough, and appears to serve its purpose. PS, I love the US spec front end.

Surely he could have fixed it on more securely than with mole grips though.

As others have said it's not at all refined as suspension setups go and the inner pivot bush is almost comical in how primative it is. However the simplicity of the design is quite excellent. It's clear this isn't a mega budget build, but the desired effect has been achieved. I love it!
