EXCELLENT choice (pun not intended) on the Elite. I very, very, nearly ended up buying one myself. I'm a huge fan of 70s/80s futurist cars, and adore the style of the elite. I now own, and am restoring, a TVR 350i. I only found out afterwards both cars were styled by Oliver Winterbottom. The only two things which steered me away from an Elite, was that I really hankered for a convertible, and also a V8. The Rover V8 has strong family associations, and so a 'wedge' TVR was just perfect. I do however LOVE the Elite for all the same reasons it appears you do. Glad to see one being resurrected from (yet another) garden. Good luck with it!

It has arrived. Better photos after the weekend when I can get to a compute, but these phone shots will have to do for now. The story of Andy, Mark and Phils heroic recovery of the car will follow also... Yep it looks a bit sorry for itself. Look closer....I've got a little window box! Quite literally inches of growth Where the headlight used to be...more growth. And rusty bits. Headlining...now in the footwells in the form of dust!! Not looking too clever compared to my black one. Fingers crossed for some better bits on the car...

Patina? It's got plenty of that. Nice bit of turned ally, but I prefer the cheesy wood effect of the black one. Looking through the (missing) fuel filler into the boot (the bootlid/hatch seized shut) there's a brand new K&N and some braided hoses What's this? Ooh..it's a gear stick (and some ivy) Yep, this one is a 5 speed manual. It gets even better, the leather is in need of a damn good clean and lots of hide food, but is far, far better condition than the seats in mine. That alone was well worth the price I paid for the car. It gets even better....

When I said it gets better, maybe I should have said it gets more interesting - side exit exhaust for example. Gauges...I'm sure there aren't that many on my other Elite? What the hell? Meanwhile, under the bonnet....what the hell?? Oh, and it's got some of this too which pleases me greatly. Actually, it pleases me enormously. It seems this car is full of surprises. Buying cars blind is always a gamble and when this arrived last night and I saw the general condition of it I thought to myself "what the hell have I done". That thought was very quickly gone when I looked closer. You'll see what I mean in the next update.

I can already imagine something pretty awesome emerging from these two shabby Lotuseseseses. I hope I can make it down to your end to get a look, I've never seen one of these in the real world before, I'd also love to try the Lotus shoes on the Princess, as you know.

Is the 5th gear an "infinity" gear?
Extra control box near the handbrake do anything awesome?

Garra, they're 14" though I can't remember the width (7" maybe?) and 4x4.5" PCD. Or 4x114.3 if you work in metric

I see the word "turbo". Sh1t just got real... Sure has got real: The money shot: £200 seemed cheap for a Lotus anyway, especially if I coul gain a better set of seats but when I heard it 'might' have coilovers and 'might' have a turbo I just thought it had to be done? It was only when it arrived I could confirm it actually did have a set of coilovers and a turbo'd engine. Bargain of the century. The chassis is more rotten than anything I've ever seen. EVER! (I'm sure someone will post some photos up after the weekend) but let's just just it's way, way beyond repairable...but that's not really an issue because I didn't buy it for the chassis. I bought it in case it had the bits the seller thought it might have. Despite all my luck at getting far more than £200 worth of bits on the car, I don't think anyone expected what came next when MantaPhil started pulling a few bits off the engine which looked to all the world like it was completely borked.
