I remember an accessory I used to see often during the 80's; two rubber strips which used to hang off the rear bumper to the ground which had reflective material on it...Does anyone know what I am on about??? I have tried looking on eBay etc but without knowing what the feck they are called or even what they do I am stumped...Any ideas?
If by any chance people do know what I am on about any chance of a pointer to where I can get some? Sad I know but that along with those hideous fin like things people used to put on their wipers would make my current car look sorta cool.
Cheers

IIRC they were anti static strips to supposedly prevent static shock from the car and I believe there were also some claims to prevent travel sickness?

You still see cars with those occasionally, always mystified me.
I heard they stopped you getting electrocuted when lightening struck your car? God knows.

Used to be fairly commonplace, especially on giffer spec motors. I always believed they were some sort of dubious anti sickness device. My granddad had some on his 340 Volvo which if it still survives today will more than likely be going sideways somewhere with a welded diff ;D

I had a car that used to give really bad static shocks so put one of these on and it seemed to do the trick, Halfords jobbie probably cost £10 to the paying public lol

If the static charge can move from the door to your hand it can just as easily move from the car to the ground... Just sayin'

Don't they just become a consumable when they wear down?
Check oil....check fanbelt tension.....check anti-static strips actually touch the ground ;D

I remember them as a staple fixture on the back of Capri's.
Obligatory items for the rear of a Capri: Extra pair of brake lights in rear window, louvered window cover, bigger rear tyres, ajdustable shackles set to max height, anti-static strip from rear valance; one each side. Touching floor optional, but not likely.
It was kind of like the whole Subway-ring thing but reverse....a status of how high your car was.
I've been looking for a pair (or even jsut one) of the authentic style ones for the back of the Rascal for some time now. I will find some...I will...

Isn't the theory that the movement of the car creates a build up of static between the person sitting in the seat and the cloth material. This somehow leads you to feeling ill. These were supposed to do away with that. I'm sure my old Physics teacher told me that.
I haven't seen them for years, we used to have one on the back of our 88 Peugeot 405. Very cool.
Also, what are those things called that people used to put on their wipers?
Lastly, an old wife's tale we were told back when I was a kid and my sister used to suffer badly from travel sickness; was to sit on a newspaper. Funnily enough, that did seem to do the trick from time to time...
