This is my 1980 Opel Kadett. It started out life as a 1.3S but ended up having a rotten MK1 Astra GTE reshelled into it. Here's a few recent pics of it. Unfortunately I don't have any build pics of the project as I didn't do the work.. I decided after these were taken, to try another set of wheels on it... And then I fitted an Irmscher grill... It has all 1.8 GTE running gear and interior. I've fitted Vectra B V6 front brakes with Goodridge hoses all round and a front strut brace. Plans for the future are for a rear disc conversion, rear strut brace and front lower strut brace. I also have uber rare Irmscher front and rear bumpers which I will be fitting over the winter.

Nice car, I personally prefer the original grille but if I was fitting the Irmscher bumpers I think I'd keep it just to match, to be honest

Thanks for the comment guys. I do prefer the original grill on it myself but a mate of mine has a silver mk1 Astra GTE and I just wanted mine to look different to his so that's why I went with the Irmscher route. The engelmann mirrors look way better than the standard items imo and seen as nearly all european SR's and GTE's had the engelmanns fitted I couldn't resist.

Beautiful car, not crazy about the grille though but waiting to see it with the irmscher bumpers though before making a final decision, I have always loved these Opels owned a '81 1.3GL. I cant get over how stunning the 2door is, Opel south africa never even brought in 1 to the country as they decided there was no market for it. As for the GTE only brought in 500(only so it could be raced in the production formula) and are now rare as hens teeth and if you do find one its silly money. And i cant believe you found a set of borbets are they 80's originals? The Kadett mach 2 superboss (2.0gsi 16v) came with them standard in 14'' with anthracite centres, also ultra rare expect to pay upwards of 1000 pounds for a refurbish able set of originals, neeedless to say i am green with envy well done mate.

Thanks for the comments Guys! :-) maxkia - Cheers lad! I was steeped with the Borbets. Bought them off a mate who had them on his Manta. I think they came off of a Nissan originally. Not sure what type though. I had to modify spigot rings because the PCD is about 2mm bigger on them compared to the hubs. When I bought them, one of them had a fair bit of damage on it after hitting a bridge at speed!! I got a local alloy wheel repair shop to repair it and it turned out perfect thankfully! I'm starting to think they might be making their way back under the Kadett soon. I think they'll work better with the Irmscher kit than the 16's. I'll keep ye posted on my progress with it when I get the time to start into it.

I like that, Think it would look better with the standard mirrors though. they are the standard mirrors? all german spec gtes had them from the factory. we got the standard ping pong bats that fold in at 80mph+ lovely car btw. i seen the pics on the mk1oc. it will look fantastic with the irmscher bumpers they were called an irmscher 'respeckt' kit. only seen one.
