yes, but ya could break em all just by slamming the bonnet too hard....they just arent robust.....its how the itals make things....
maybe i was exagerating, they made a few nice engines, but the rest of the comment still stands. Ive just seen and worked on too many italian cars to respect the engineering...lol

I don't know, the Italian cars have a bad reputation for that kind of thing, but then so do Imp engines, and I find the reputation Imps have is mostly unjustified, and besides, no British car is totally reliable, even so called 'best in the world' Rolls Royces need plenty of attention. Fact is the British press in the 60s and 70s let their fear of progress get in the way, so ideas like alloy engines, rear mounted engines, or even buying a car not made in this country became ridiculed, and stories of foreign or unusual cars breaking down became vastly exaggerated, while reports of regular BMCs and Fords falling apart went largely unreported. The fact is that most of our classics weren't designed to have the lifetime they've had, and no piece of machinery is 100% reliable, it's physically impossible, so none of them are going to be bulletproof altogether, it's just a case of taking care of an old car properly, and not grumbling and bearing grudges when something needs replaced.

Ever noticed that people who tell you certain engines are unreliable don't even check their oil?

Personally I say even if you don't like cars like John Beardmore's Moggy you can still appreciate the effort involved. I don't always think "I want that!" when I see an old car but I try to appreciate the work involved, whether its a restoration, extremely modified, or just very well maintained, it takes a bit of effort to get your old car the way you want it. Below the belt remarks about poor quality and inadequate reliability or performance just get peoples backs up. It's like going to an art gallery. You might not think that you would want a particular painting hanging in your living room, but its worthy as art anyway, and doesn't need to be slagged off and nit-picked to death. To me old cars are art in the same way, they're an expression of the self and how you feel you want to live. Otherwise we'd all be driven by badge snobbery and loads of nice worthy cars would have been scrapped.
