I didnt know what to call this new thread. Its a bit like Grizz's Tip Treasures only this is what falls off the roof of a car or the back of a truck when you don't tie it down properly! When you drive along the Motorway and all of sudden theres a settee in lane three and you swerve to miss it and think 'bloody hell that shouldnt be there! Someone should go and get that!!!' Well thats me! I live in the world of Hi-Vis and its my job to make sure your journeys a safe one! We have a few large skips at work for all this stuff to be collected which more often than not turns up some goodies! Most of us also like to use the facility for our own refuse rather than que up in our own time at the tip with those power hungry tip men breathing down your neck! So some of its just peoples clear out some of its joe publics bad luck! Lucky for me most of the people I work with don't know the true value of rubbish and how to salvage it!
One of my favourite finds! Found this in the metal skip when the offices were refurbed they chucked this! A Bisley 15 drawer! We used this to seperate out the various paperwork we have to fill in. They go for a fair sum on ebay. I use this for sorting my Nuts and bolts etc.
This is handy because you can just take the drawer with you on the job! I'l probably restore it when the garage is finished and paint it red. The nuts and bolts screws etc is another find! A lorry fell over on the M27 a few years ago and it was carrying a couple of pallets of nuts and bolts and screws. The pallets landed in the centre reserve spilling everywhere. That night three crews were asked to bag it all up and remove it. We were the last van to arrive and they were just filling bags to bin it! Until I came across the road screaming at them i'l have it!!!! There was a lot amongst the dirt but there was also a lot still in its boxes!!! So i had the good stuff! I'm sure none of the lads at work have had to buy a nut and bolt or a screw in their lives!
These stackable crates were found scattered along the A3, they'l come in handy.
I found this in the skip! Its a sturdy table about six foot long. Nothing wrong with it. I expect it was from the stores they've cleared out, I couldnt see this go to landfill! All the white and green tubs are the Tarmac we use totemp fill the pot holes, no there not full of Tarmac still! I keep the empty boxes they're real handy storage.
My collection of ratchet straps. These are always falling off the back of lorrys! I keep all the good ones, even the crate I found on the road!
Tarpaulins are another common find. This one was from lane three of junction 12 early one morning, It covers the whole car which is handy because the car cover had just disintegrated!
I found two of these when I worked at Tesco and ive found four more at work when they were having a clear out they asked me to put these in the metal skip!!! Er..... no! These cost a fortune, even second hand they're £60-£80 on ebay!
One of my favourite ever finds! I used to love riding these as a kid, so light you could do some great stunts on these. I wanted one for my son and looked for ages on ebay for a local one at reasonable money. I found this in the metal skip! It had a tag for £6 on it so I wondered wether one of the lads had tried to bootsale this and it didnt go? Surprising as they go for £30 plus on ebay! It all worked too. I have since replaced one of the tyres and inner tube and polished most of the surface rust off it with half left to do. Well thats it for the minute, i've got plenty more to add to this story and it'l be ongoing I can assure you!( providing I don't get run over )
