Should be in the shops on Thursday I think, although if you're a subscriber you'll probably have it today. It's got an XE'd Toledo on the cover, a Datsun 100A that you may well recognise, a Volvo 300-series buying guide, a Zetec'd mkI Escort and all sorts of other goodies. Get it bought! Oh, and I wrote this month's Lock-Up feature (p.80-85). ;D

Didn't Speedy88 do/have a hand in the write-up on the Volvo buyers guide? Haven't actually seen it yet myself but hopefully have a copy very soon to browse & leave on the coffee table down at the unit.
Good work on the lock-up feature. Branching out from 'Retrospective'.....brilliant stuff Dude.

Wonder why Retro Cars mag feels the need to charge £2 for one of their stickers, in the good old days mags used to give these away?

Wonder why Retro Cars mag feels the need to charge £2 for one of their stickers, in the good old days mags used to give these away? They cost a small fortune to produce en masse and in a world of shrinking sales figures they don't create enough of a 'spike' in revenue to justify their inclusion on the front of mags. In more important news; congrats on another feature mate. Are you doing any show reports for them next year?

Who did you do work for? I'm always interested to know who's about Lots of people don't realise the mag only see roughly half the cover price, and how many people refer to the Newsagents as a library? I saw a guy in the motorway services the other day pretty much read a mag from cover to cover at the stand, I bought, drunk and finished a coffee whilst he was there. Put it back and walked away... Even I felt like saying something.

^This. Several times over the last few months I've had to stop myself saying something.

Even I felt like saying something. Have been 'retired' now for nearly 10 years. I started with a dozen or so pieces in Practical Classics, then quite regularly in 'Car Mechanics', but mostly in 'Classics' (now ' Classics Monthly') every month for about the first 4-5 years of its existance. Do I want to do it again? No thanks! It doesn't matter how enthusiastic the staff and freelancers are, as I'm sure you know the publishers are only interested in the 'bottom line'.

Wonder why Retro Cars mag feels the need to charge £2 for one of their stickers, in the good old days mags used to give these away? I don't mind so much, small specialist magazines like RC need every penny to stay viable, although the £1 postage per sticker really wound me up, order two stickers and it's £6!!!! I ordered one, put a note on the order saying I'd have ordered more but I'm not paying them extra postage for the privilage. Did they reply to me, also bearing in mind I'm on a yearly subscription? Nope Great magazine though, long may it continue...

You guys ever find yourself re-arranging the shelving to put the mags you contribute to in a better spot? haha? I've often seen myself move a pile with my cover shot to the front, and bunged Autodullard or 'Tractor and Pony' mag to the rear..... ;D

Oh yes, if you'd have gone into WH Smiths in Gloucester a few years back you'd have seen a lot of titles from the local automotive publisher at the front of the racks and also covering their rivals.
I think it would have been vice versa with the rivals' publishing house doing it in their local Smiths too!
Quite surprised about the stickers. Guess postage and production costs have done for that. Back in the day, it was seen as a nice little bit of low cost advertising!
