Do I now have a radio obsession? Is there a cure??? I bought another.... a lovely Double Decca of circa 1947 vintage. Option of either mains or battery (90V and 7.5V) Currently a non runner due to no valve heaters.... I suspect one has blown and as they are in series the rest are no functioning. The guts. The wooden cross is the internal aerial. Lovely detail.... the tuning dial and the not so lovely detail.... 1940's mains lead.... eeeek!

Lovely stuff. My FiL has one of these: Which he got from his FiL! They were going to throw it out. Be interested to know how exactly you're planning on making it safer. This may need the same treatment.

I've got this Ekco in my garage/cave, I bought it from a car boot sale about 15 years ago, it's been up and down the attic a few times, does work and has a lovely warm sound to it.......

Lovely stuff. My FiL has one of these: Which he got from his FiL! They were going to throw it out. Be interested to know how exactly you're planning on making it safer. This may need the same treatment. That's gorgeous. How you connect it depends on the circuit inside. Basically you need to isolate the radio from the mains through a transformer or you'll take out every rcd in the house as these things leak like hell!. If the Radio is like my Murphy and a 240Vac powere one then a 1:1 isolation transformer is fine, connect the primary to the output, the secondary to the radio and both earths through the body of the transformer. You can then earth the chassis of the radio. If yours has a resistive mains lead you'll need to get the output voltage of the lead and have a similar setup as before but it is best to remove the resistive lead and have a step down transformer in place. If it's a dual voltage DC, then you can use similar to what I used for the Vidor. The valve heaters ideally need a regulated power supply, but the amp can be un-regulated. The Dc will need to be very smooth though or the radio will tend to hum. Hope this helps.

More radio and better pics of the Decca. Remember this... That is what it actually looks like. The disc structure at the top is a selenium diode. The earliest form of solid state diode. Other than that the circuit is very similar to any other super het of the period. Just need to figure out why if dosent work... fist up is a new pentode. New radio is a Philips 353a circa 1957. Found in a car boot for £20. It breifly worked on am, but a damaged pentode put pay to that. The white topped diode is a brken pentode... the glass had cracked. This one has early Fm!!! up to 100MCS but not working due to this another smashed valve.... this was quite clearly an add in to a am set as it is squeezed in the corner... Hope you all like...

mcs ahh sounds better than mhz you should make a loop aerial then you can find stations on mw and null out the noise brilliant with portables by turning aerial slightly got a nice kw2000 for amateur use cant beat valve radios and transceivers
