Holly molly!!!
The crash was that hard it mangled up that front wheel so much it changed from a multispoke into a 5 spoke!!!!
It's interesting, as an experiment or for the shock factor, but the outcome was hardly a supprise. Crashing a tin can weighing 1 ton at 120mph into something unmovable.
I have seen crashtests with VW T25's and beetles, that's scary even at low speeds!

This would have been much more relevant had they conducted the test at 80mph, a speed which most motorists will do. Joe public will just see this and be happy in the knowledge that this won't happen if they crash as they don't do 120mph. Truth is that any impact with a solid object like a tree stands a good chance of being very serious if not fatal at half that speed.

A tree is probably worse as due to the diameter of the trunk the energy is a lot more focused at the point of impact.
I think the most benificial thing they could do to improve driving standards is to teach people how to read the road conditions and drive accordingly. The main problem in this country seems to be that people drive exactly the same in all conditions, and also do not know what to do when the car loses grip.

To be fair, your probably better hitting a solid wall at 120 than 80, at least it would be instant death, rather than 10 minutes of agony before the inevitable. Here's the smart car crash at 70, think it faired quite well - but it didnt hit a solid block of concrete I think the most benificial thing they could do to improve driving standards is to teach people how to read the road conditions and drive accordingly. The main problem in this country seems to be that people drive exactly the same in all conditions, and also do not know what to do when the car loses grip. Sadly thats very true, in the snow last year a line of us were going arround a stuck motor admitadly on the wrong side of the road when a girl in a corsa came over the hill doing about 40, on snow! jammed the brakes, slid for a good 100 meters pirouetting past us Luckily we were all on our side of the road by the time she went past us. If she had been doing a sensible speed, say 10 she could have stopped/slowed down.

A Ford Focus hit a bridge at high speed and both opponents were killed instantly You make it sound like a sport.

Was it the Impala that used to decapitate the passenger with the glovebox lid in a crash, or something else American and 50s.

Trouble with that smart one would be the rate of deceleration casuing injury even if the car didn't crumple. Anyway, where were we. Oh yes, old cars

crashing your focus into a concrete block at 120mph, kinda ended as expected to be honest.
However I'm certain if i crashed my Imp into a block at 120mph it'd be the catalyst of the apocolypse.
Mainly as the most I've ever had out of her was 91mph! (on a satnav, on a private road obviously )
kinda shocking to see the after effect, real car crash tv!
(ok I'll stop now)

Interesting experiment with expected results. Further ammunition for the likes of "BRAKE" to get more legislation passed to keep our speeds down for our safety. Ultimately if you want to drive at 50mph, 60mph or 100mph then its your choice & you live (or indeed, don't!) with the consequences.

Tbh, all of this is a bit of a moot subject for me as the desoto doesn't even have seatbelts, let alone a collapseable steering column or brake servo. I drive that thing on the slow side....
