Shiny! Is there any advantage over the standard body or is it just shinier?
And now some questions Mr Nightmare: Where do you get your cars set up? Its a way off but you are reasonably near me and I'll need my Mustang setting up soon. Theres a dyno in Rayleigh isnt there?
Secondly, I have a 350 cleveland and the previous owner stuck an 800 DP on it, this seems like too much carb to me. What do you think?
Love the car by the way!

Wicked motor mate, Always wondered if people used these on the road etc, then read the bit about the MOT :-) I'm in the minddle (3/4 the way through) RWDing my Mk4 ERST and was questioned about wether or not an MOT would be legal. But after seeing this monster i'm a lot happier :-)

Is there any advantage over the standard body or is it just shinier? from my limited Holly carb experience the air correctors are part of the body and not changable. the new body looks to have screw in air correctors as well as a much smoother airflow into the carb which can make quite a difference. for some reason i thought double pumpers had four idle mixture adjustment screws? problem with these carbs is there is quite a few jet plates to choose from as well as various power valves etc to get the mixture right as well as the jetting. saying that when i built an FIA race 327 chevy engine the brand new Holley for it worked perfectly out of the box. what the engine did have was a dip in power at about 3000 rpm. a quick chat to an expert in America and we swapped the single plane manifold for a dual plane and fitted smaller bore Headers of 4-2-1 design which brought the mid range right up without losing top end power. it was a small capacity engine only revving to 6000 rpm (not allowed to use roller rockers), what we had was off the cheat high revving big capacity engine which doesn't work so well on smaller engines. what we got was about 420bhp using 97 octane pump fuel which isn't too shabby.

Love the car by the way! what bozwell said about the carb pretty much sums it up . setup correctly it can give between 25-50bhp difference due to its better flow and tunability also the carb is lighter and stronger being made from billet alloy instead of stock cast holleys. ultra HP holleys have a 4 corner idle circuit but this has a secondary metering block that is tunable on the main jets it only has the one power valve to worry about later it will be getting a pair of billet metering block and a billet base plate at a later date to complete the carb an 800dp on a 350 is a little big but it depends on whats been done to the engine and how the car has been set up mpg will be curse word though i would say for street use and a little strip time a 750 vac sec will be more than enough if the rest of the engine is fairly mild . i set all my own engines up rarely use a dyno as the engines are always changing due to trying different stuff out . but it is good to get a base line figure on dyno and tune from there that way you have somewhere to go back to if it looses power .

thanks for the replies, I really need to think about my engine, it's basically a race engine in a street car, I think the previous owner got carried away!

took the car down the workshop back down the workshop today to set the carb up and do a few other little jobs . started off by rechecking and adjusting the timing so the car had a good base line to work from . once that was done a set up the floats and fitted a pair of clear sight windows to save having to remove the screws every time a want to check them again . i also fitted a new pair of idle screws as the others were quite chewed fired the car up with a vacuum gauge attached to find where we were with that found it runs 8 inches of vacuum maximum due to the cam its running so then swapped out the 6.5 hg power valve for a 3.5 hg one and swapped the .28 squirter nozzles for a pair of .31 ones . started the car and its better and has much better power delivery but the dead spot is still there so more investigation is needed . another job on the cards was replacing the screen rubbers as the current ons are shot stripped out the front one and put the new rubber on the screen it was a tight fit but its now in and looks so much better rear still to but thats a little harder to get into lol last job for today was to sort out the leaking front oil seal noticed a bit of oil spray round the front of the motor at mersea island show last week on a closer inspection i could see it had been leaking from the from seal no problem i thought . this is where the day went a bit down hill firstly the damper didnt want to come off and i ended bending the puller for that . it eventually shifted and i pulled the timing cover off only to find a load of mangled metal and little tiny needle bearings from what used to be the cam button little roller bearing device that sits between the camshaft and the timing cover of the geardrive timing gear it has . ok i thought not what i wanted to see but not a major set back i have a cloys double roller hex adjust timing chain and cover i'll fit that except the bottom timing gear just would not budge finally got it off by heating it and using a nut gun on a 3 pin puller but ran out of time so for this week we have a very full workshop not much room left in here now lol

been busy getting rid of some ugly bodges on the escort today namely the modified tube that holds the steering column the tube was at the wrong angle for the column unless the column was set so the wheel was right up by the window but with the column set where I wanted it the tube was then to short plus the welding on looked terrible so I cut the tube off by the roll cage and made up a new longer one then cut the bracket off the old tube and welded it back on the new new tube at a better angle . all back on and painted much stronger smoother and holds the column in a better position

Many years ago I read an article in Street Machine or CC about a Mk1 in black with a Windsor fitted. Its one of the reasons I own a Mk1 today. Currently pushrod powered . This is gorgeous also. Is it on original (modified) chassis and back halved rear with spaceframed front section?
