Hi,
Thinking about getting a Fiat 126 as a cheap project/laugh. Now stock it has 25bhp, not quite enough for me. Can people think of any cheap, also fairly easy, engines that could go in one to give it a decent amount of power?

Subaru 1800 mv pick-up motor perhaps? Flat 4 sound & should give you a nice power increase! ;D The engines dimensions are very compact, i reckon it would look right at home in the back of the fart box!

penski, That a bike engine? Was this pic that first made me and my mate look into getting one. Don't think I want a 1.9D though!

Suzuki RG500 square 4, 2 stroke.... imagine that sucker coming into powerband. Scuplt some trick looking chambers, poke them out the back, mmmmmmmmm
Finding one of those motors would be the tricky part I suspect.

Ill just make sure everyone realises, I don't want something too crazy, also cheaper the better for an engine! Will be used as a pure toy for laughs, getting it between me and a mate to get much better with working on cars. Both of us are only 18 aswell so insurance could be a bit crazy with certain engines.

The Beetle engine and rear clip is a relatively simple conversion and there is a company that supplies narrowed rear suspension components to suit those small Fiats. Then you have all the Beetle tuning goodies to play with.
I would have thought many FWD front ends off a small narrow hatchback wouldn't be too hard to adapt either, but the Beetle clip is the easiest complete swap as far as I know.

I like that idea. Could be done on a relatively low budget too. Or even as an inter-rim mod until all the bits for an engine swap are collected... Small turbocharger (maybe even a K14 off a Rover diseasel at a push), would do the job. Bit of plumbing, intercooling and b*ggering on with the fueling... sweet.

How about keeping it in la familia and hoiking a Fiat FIRE engine in the back from an Uno or Panda? If we're talking first cars, then some 500bhp fire-breathing monster is gonna be un-insurable (but plenty of fun!), so I reckon something with a healthy amount of poke should be both practical to use and quick enough to embarass a lot of cars seeing as the 126 weighs nowt

How about keeping it in la familia and hoiking a Fiat FIRE engine in the back from an Uno or Panda? Funny you should say that, I have conversion kit for sale (I made 2 sets of everything when I did the conversion on my Fiat 500): a cast adaptor plate, spigot shaft bearing and custom studs. Basicly all the that are needed to join the fire engine to the 126 box. I also have a tuned 650 aircooled engine that I am planning to ebay soon, Big valve gas flowed head, 40/80 cam, fully ballanced bottom end, alloy sump, sports exhaust, dellorto FZD carb ect, let me know if any of this is of interest.
