Hi folks,
Just asking if anyone has a simple way to test ignition, I've lost sparks but not sure if it's coil or aftermarket ignition unit (or possibly wiring, or gremlins, or ...)
It's on the Hunter, has Lucas 25D distributor with an aftermarket "black box" ignition unit on the inner wing, points have bene removed and replaced with a disc with slots cut in it - a magic eye fitted above riggers the coil (opto-electronic points?)
So far...
Coil is getting good 12V from when the ignition is on - good
"black box" is getting same - good
have redone earth cables, no difference.
have removed 1 plug and earthed it, spun the engine - spark is there but only just.
have removed HT lead from coil, fitted sparkplug to that, earthed it and get same poor spark.
used a piece of wire to short the "non-12V" coil terminal, no spark from coil output (does it need a condenser in the circuit - car has none ?)
Tried using a motorbike coil (cast body with twin HT leads ) to test plugs but not at all sure I was testing right.
I'm thinking coil or electronic ignition, how do I tell which?
Plugs are less than a year old - any way to test??
