Very nice! It's more interesting and faster than a Mk4 GTI so therefore it must be worth more than one of those!

ZOMG! It's not even Oak or Lhasa Green!
I like Mk2s, truly, but no I wouldn't give you seven thousand pounds for one. These things are being torn to bits and having their original engines scrapped almost daily though, so I guess it won't be long until this kind of price is considered reasonable.

I see they're also selling an Audi UR quattro for 12 grand.
If it was the 20 valve RR version, fair enough, but it's not, it's a high mileage 10 valve MB version.
It's a clean example, granted, but it's at least double the price it should be.
The Golf Gti is mint as well, but it's probably the same, double the normal price.

...but again, they're in a quality niche and people are clearly willing to pay these prices.

You're right. For seven large I would expect a matching set of tyres. Good quality ones at that.
FWIW, I think that what tyres are on a car are good indicator of wether it's been maintained on a shoestring budget or not. A mismatched set of budget no-brands usually means the bare minimum has been spent.
It's clearly a pretty decent example but then again, for TOP money you would expect a top quality car in all respects. Funny how they make a big deal about fitting new rims as opposed the re-furbing them (like it really matters) yet were happy to slap on a set of any old boots onto said new rims.

You'd have a very hard time finding one in Lhasa Green, i've seen maybe one or two It does look very tidy, but then so does mine, and mine cost me £90 from the scrap man... but if someone out there is willing to pay it, i'd ask 7k all day long!

Small bumpers FTMFW! As far as I'm concerned this is a respray in Oak Green away from being standard Mk2 perfection.

You're right. For seven large I would expect a matching set of tyres. Good quality ones at that. Not to mention non-rusty fuel tank straps and suspension arms. Come to think of it, for that kind of dough, they'd better throw in a three-course meal and a blow job from Kelly Brook. But no doubt some emptors won't be so discerning.

Did they take the arches off and see if there was anything underneath? It's tidy but nowhere near perfect, as mentioned the underside seems to be fairly normal i.e rusty bare metal bits like most cars of that age.

Come to think of it, for that kind of though, they'd better throw in a three-course meal and a blow job from Kelly Brook. But no doubt some emptors won't be so discerning. Yep, especially when they say: "Rather than having the steel wheels refurbished we managed to source one of the last original 14" sets from VW with the correct centre caps so they are all in perfect new condition." So they go to all that trouble to get some tidy wheels, and they can't drop £150 or so on a set of matching tyres? (Which of course should be the equivalent today of the make/model tyre it left the factory with) That just makes me a little suspicious...

You see, if I was those recent Lotto winners, or one of their friends, I reckon I'd be all over this. My second car was a Mk2 8v in that colour. But it was slammed, was on teardrops, had a silly exhaust and a 160k up it. Now I'm older and wiser, this standard one might be more up my street. Then again, I still reckon I'd find it hard to resist chucking coilovers, ATS Cups and a nice exhaust at it . . .
