Expect high teens around town, and mid 30s on a run.
Stunningly good cars, and this is a bargain.

Being a '96 I'm guessing a 4spd.

James,
I'm quite interested in this - is there anything on it that doesn't work or needs fixing?
Any damage to the seats?
I assume these are aluminium bodied - any damage (other than car park dings etc.)

James, I'm quite interested in this - is there anything on it that doesn't work or needs fixing? Any damage to the seats? I assume these are aluminium bodied - any damage (other than car park dings etc.) Needs nothing. The rear window has and electric blind that clicks when it's lowered but it still works. No dash warning lights No damage to the seats no bolster wear, the seats look like they could have done 50k Yes aluminium body and has a minor scuff to bumper and a couple of small areas where the paint is blistering on the alumninum. There's a pretty extensive service history and invoice after invoice for many things including the cam belt and waterpump. Also included is the original brouchure and spec/price list from 96. This car was £57,000 new!!

James,
Can you PM me your post code so I can check if I can pop round sometime this week to have a look at it?
It's about a month earlier than I was going to buy, but I'm tempted if it's a gooddun!

It will be the much more reliable 4-speed, they didn't go 5-speed until the facelift in 98.

Damn! Just made the mistake of looking on gocomparethemeerkat.com and insurance would be around the £400 mark...
Just how much do I need an A8 in my life right now?!

That's *really* not helping!!
I remember the performance of my (iirc ~150bhp) 90 quattro...goodness knows what it is like in a car that has more than twice the power, and I very much doubt weighs twice as much...

Ali body weighs chuff all compared with a standard steel. In fact it's probably worth about £1200 in scrap for the aluminium!
We worked out that power to weight the a8 is faster than my dads Porsche boxster!
