How come is it when I put a number plate of one my previously scrapped cars Dvla has no trace at all? If the Dvla still have the details of this id of thought it still exists? Plus it's a lot of money to buy then give up with and scrap? Old stuff drops off eventually or was never transferred to the electronic system in the first place. Owners of rare cars have even rarer spares, I think at one point the car went to someone who had another, so perhaps it was broken for spares rather than the traditional "scrap"

The timing tallies with Continuous Insurance Enforcement. Maybe it had to be SORN mid-month because an owner was concerned about getting a ticket for no insurance.

If you really want one, I know where there's one you may be able to buy. Can't say for sure as the guy owns two and one definitely isn't for sale, the one may be if an offer came along (he had plans for both and he's had the one which he may be tempted to part with for many years)

Tell us more?? Had one of these in the late 80s, great for launching boats with the air suspension.

It's a customer of ours. He has two of them. He worked for Subaru when they were launched, so he's mad keen and clued up on them.
The one of them he's owned for a long time, but he took it off the road a couple of years back when the air suspension failed on the rear. He randomly stumbled upon another one for sale locally at the same time and bought that to continue using it. We've done a lot of work on that one and he's swapped over some of the parts from his other one that are in better condition. Also, the one he drives around in now had been converted to conventional coil springs before he bought it as presumably the previous owner had a fault and thought that was an easier fix.
We have the one that is off the road with us at the moment as he really wants to swap the air suspension over to the one that's on the road and get it all fixed up and working properly, but obviously he's into a big bill there so he's stalling on it at the moment. We have told him we need the car moving really, so he needs to make a decision.
He's said to me that if money is no object he'd keep the one that's on the road as a "purist" spec car and go mad with the other one as it needs a fair bit of work anyway, so change the hubs and suspension for Impreza items, get wide arches fabricated, WRX engine, paintjob etc etc, but at the moment it's just lying there sitting on its rear suspension, so I think maybe if a serious offer came along he might just be tempted to sell that one, but I don't know.
